Default 2000 points worth of 12' models.

First off let me say that I know the taboo of starting a thread at post #1. However, I hardly consider myself an expert and am far more comfortable asking for advice than giving advice.

I've wanted to try a mech tau list for some time now after getting tired of the IG complete with cement shoes and the rush and gnaw 'nids. Essentially I wanted to make an army that would play radically different in different scenarios. So I went for the most mobile list there is as mobility = flexibility. Every unit in my list is capable of moving 12' in a turn, and every weapon in the list can be fired on the move. This means no broadsides, markerlights or sniper drones. I also wanted a very clean sterile army. Goodbye kroot, vespid, guard and Etherals. I'm going for a themed army, and I know that this army will not win every encounter. Please, give me all the advice you can think of, but keep the theme of the army in mind.

Well first off this is not a bad list at all. To help you out some maybe drop one of the pirahnas to add decoy launchers and multi trackers to your fishes this will make them deadly and hard to take down, and maybe give decoys to your railheads too!!! one helpful tip drop the bonded option on your crisis suits its not worth it by the time they get below 50% they will be doing all on their own test anyways its just a waste of pts. O by the way I love how you gave your crisis suits a specific duty on the table and not give them too many battle field roles. overall not a bad list if you want try swapping out team for a deathrain (I know they don't sound great and i thought the same way but after i tried them out i don't hardly leave home with out them).

I'll be proxying this list Saturday against some Bel-tan. I'll let you know how it fairs.

By the way you need to fill all 3 hard points and several of your suits dont. For instance your Shas'O with CIB, Shield and Stims, the stims dont take up a hard point. The CIB and Shield do but he still needs one more weapon or support system. Same with your second crisis team burst cannon and flamer makes 2 you need 1 more.

Nice to see you came to similar conclusions as me. That makes it easy for me to rip your list apart.

HQ 1: Shas'O
Cyclic Ion Blaster, Shield Generator, Stimulant Injector Total:120

Ah... this sucks. Sucks, sucks sucks.

First off: You don't need the shield generator! You will be fairly far away from the enemy, and able to avoid assault. Use IC status as a shield! Some options:

Shas'el
Plasma, CIB, TA, Hardwired MT

Shas'O
Plasma, Fusion, Shield gen, and hardwired MT

Shas'O
Plasma, CIB, Missile Pod, Hardwired MT

Notice how these all gravitate toward one purpose!

Elite 1: 3 XV8s
Shas'vre, Bonded, Twin-linked Plasma Rifles, 1 Positional Relay Total: 195

Is there any reason for this? What are you going to deepstrike? Why the Shas'vre upgrade? When will bonding EVER HELP?

Take 2x Shas'ui, TL plasma, TA.

Or 2x Shas'ui, plasma, fusion, and MT.

Elite 2: 3 XV8s
Bonded, Burst Cannon, Flamer Total: 116

What sorry excuse is this? Get rid of it!

Troop 1: Fish +12 Fire Warriors
Shas'ui Total: 210

Troop 2: Fish +12 Fire Warriors
Shas'ui Total: 210

Troop 3: Fish +12 Fire Warriors
Shas'ui Total: 210

Troop 4: Fish +12 Fire Warriors
Shas'ui Total: 210

Wow... that is alot of FWs! You could drop some squads for some Stealth teams, which are better in every way!

Devilfish always must take decoy launchers.

MT, TA, and SMS make for a Chimera-skimmer gunboat.

Try teams of 10 FWs each... easier to load and less vulnerable to blasts

Fast Attack 1: 3 Piranhas
Fusion Blaster, Decoy Launcher Total: 210

Targetting arrays are a possible upgrade!

Fast Attack 2: 8 Drones
Total: 96

Fast Attack 3: 8 Drones
Total: 96

I'd scrap these for Pathfinders.

Heavy Support 1: Hammerhead
Burst Cannons, Rail Gun, Multi Tracker Total: 160

Heavy Support 2:
Burst Cannons, Rail Gun, Multi Tracker Total: 160

Decoy Launchers are essential!

[hr]

All in all, a bit weak on anti-tank.

I somehow missed that "must take three hard points" rule. A couple of points, though. First those suits with the burst cannons and flamers? As both a guard and a 'nid player I allways hated those things, so in they go and at a very low point value. The positional relay will be usefull in getting the drones and BC/F suits where I want them fast. Also, as a 'nid player I know better than to stock up on infultrating models. I always used them to leapfrog from one CC to the next. Deepstrike is much better as you can place your models behind the enemy with no chance of being noticed beforehand. I'll revise the list and post it again around friday night.
