I prefer stealth over assault any time. Therefore I’ve created this army list (which I’m actually going to build [see armybuilderitis in general 40K]) here it is
* * * * H.Q *Ethreal in stealth armour with plasma rifle, shield generator and houner blade attached (when I get the money to build this I’ll post a picture of it) 84 pts * * * * Elites *stealth 1: 3 stealth battlesuits 90 pts *stealth 2: 4 stealth battlesuits with Shas'vre 130 pts *stealth 3: 4 stealth battlesuits with Shas'vre 130 pts * * * * *Troops *Kroot 1: 13 kroot, armour ,shaper, pulse carbine, 5 kroot hounds 130 *Kroot 2: 13 kroot, armour ,shaper, pulse carbine, 5 kroot hounds 130 * * * * *Fast attack *Pathfinders: 6 pathfinders, 3 railrifles *Devilfish: multitracker, Flechette discharger, decoy launchers and 2 seeker missiles 222 pts Heavy attack Ion head: SMS, multitracker, Flechette discharger, decoy launchers 170 pts I know i said i hated CC, the kroot are for their infiltrate abilaty.

Well to be a legal army you do need one squad of fire warriors, personally I'm not sure about an Ethereal in steal armour either. I think a stealth Shas'el would be more appropiate - inspiring yet invisible?
Could then have the Fire warriors as the Ethereal's bodyguard and the stealth force sent in to locate and recover him and his men. |

I can only assume that you are going to be using your own rules for the list as it does not meet Codex: Tau criteria (current or rumoured).
Per the Codex you are required to have 1+ squads of Fire Warriors (new codex will also require 1+ Tau Commander(s)) Per the codex, Ethereals do not have the option to take Stealth Armour, Plasma Rifle, or Shield Generator (not sure how you came up with a points total for this). Also, the Kroot will not be able to take advantage of the Pathfinders' Markerlights (per the new codex). Otherwise, it would certainly be a different Tau Army. Later, Fireblade

There was a small hole punched in either flank – one the projectile’s entry point, the other its exit. The tiny munition had passed through the vehicle with such speed that everything within the hull not welded down had been sucked out through the exit hole. Including the crew. We never identified their bodies, for all that remained of them was a red stain upon the ground, extending some twenty metres from the wreck.” Major Kane |

1 (different armylist) bang on. I'm considering ditching some of the kroot for fire warriors with Holofeilds. The codex is something i'm working on. I'm thinking along the lines of heavier stealth suits (options for crisis weapons etc) instead of crisis battlesuits and other stealth related things. 2 (Ethreal points) fairly simple really. A shas'ui is 20 pts, one in a XV-15 suit is 30. Therefore a XV-15 costs 10 pts. I used the pts for crisis options for the plasma rifle+sheild generator.

that's... interesting, how do you intend to find an opponent who'll let you play with it?

My freinds usually don't mind custom rules. I let a freind who plays space marines have some custom rules, so no FW's and a custom ethreal will even it out.

I like the idea of developing 'player' lists, but you're ethereal is woefully underpointed for its in-game effects. 'Vulnerability' is built into the ethereals current pointing, and making the ethereal both mobile and stealth is something that you can't cost at a mere 10points.
Furthermore the Honour Blade requires 2 hands to use, meaning you have modelling / realism issues: the weapon itself does take a single slot. Even at your costing of 10, the ethereal is underpointed (50+10+16+20+10 does not equal 84). I'd say a more realistic price for this model is something like 150.
