I personally have been running large numbers of suits each with 2 fusion blasters. This has the advantage that they one hit most multi-wound models, thus making them in many instances a lot more effective than plasma rifles, but also means that against a vehicle army you cannot lose.

Unfortunately, I only own 6 crisis suits. Furthermore, as the other tau player at my games shop runs a very suit heavy army, I figure that if my army ends up being too similar it won't be very interesting to play.

True but you could simply say that the weapons systems on your current suits "count as" sunforge or burning eyes

I'm going to try prying off the plasma rifle one the commander and giving him double missile pod.
The people I game with would let me proxy, but I'd prefer not to.

Also, I've created a new ititeration of the list. I would have added more fire warriors, but I only posess 24, and, again, I dislike proxying.

HQ
Commander w/ 2x missile pod
Drone controller, neuroweb system jammer, iridium battlesuit
2x Marker drone

Elites
5x stealthsuit

3x helios xv8

2x Deathrain-7
W/ 4x marker drones

Troops
Devilfish w/ D-pod and PDTR
6x pulse rifle fire warriors
2x pulse carbine fire warriors
Shas'ui with markerlight and target lock

Devilfish w/ D-pod and PDTR
6x pulse rifle fire warriors
2x pulse carbine fire warriors
Shas'ui with markerlight and target lock

Warfish w/ D-pod and PDTR
3x Pulse rifle fire warriors
3x pulse carbine fire warriors

Heavy support
Submunition Railhead w/ D-pod and blacksun filter

Skyray w/ D-pod and blacksun filter

Long story short, Carrelio's mathhammer convinced me that with the addition of the helios suits I could safely drop a railhead, and I used the points on a bunch of assorted upgrades.

The shas'ui are for even more markerlight support, as well as leadership.

I'm not sure if the PDTR is worth it- does anyone have experience using it on a devilfish?

Also, the rules say the sponson drones act like embarked passengers, so can anyone tell me if they can be destroyed with a vehicle destroyed result?

When the vehicle 'splodes, I'd assume they hop out like the rest of the guys.

as for the PDTR, it comes down to preference, with the standard devilfish you are getting 4 twin-linked and 4 non-twinlinked bs1, str5ap5 shots. If you think it'll make a difference, by all means go for it. Overall IMO, not worth its weight in points.

as a general rule of thumb, giving shas'ui's from FW squads markerlights is a terrible choice. Pretty much the least cost effective source.

also, the skyray can be good, but as far as I can tell the majority of the tau community still prefer the hammerhead over it. as soon as those 6 krak missile shots run out (quickly if you are using it properly), you have an over expensive bucket floating about. perhaps a sniperdrone team? (most cost effective), or some more marker-drones ( I hope you've got a Drone controller in there for them ie commander). I'm a big fan of the deathrain/markerdrone/support commander combo. it's perfectly sized, and based entirely around providing mobile support. you could even target lock the deathrains so that they dont even have to shoot at the same target...

other then that, maybe beef up the Fire warriors (when you get more models).

it's a pretty good list as far as I can see
