Hello Everyone. I was looking in the space marine codex one day and read the trait "heed to the wisdom of the ancients". I was wondering if this was the ability to take dreadnoughts elites and heavy or is just as heavys or just as elites? the wording of this has caused some confusion and i was wondering if anyone could give me a clarification. thanks.

I think you can have up to 6 Dreads. 3 must be venerable ones if you choose them as Elites, the onther 3 are regular Dreads but are Heavy Support choices.
Hope that makes sens! Chaplain Thu'Ook Pormethean Cultist |

Thanks for the quick reply. my friend had gotten his opponent angry at him once when he feilded this army.(yes he has 6 Dreads) His opponent argued that the Or in the sentance ment one or the other not both but we think that they would have mentioned something about it if they wanted differently.

No, Chaplain Thu'Ook has it right. It just means you can take regualr dreads as heavies and the limit of one venerable is removed for elites. All elite dread choices must be venerable. You got it right and so ahs your friend. The other guy was just bieng stubborn about it I think.

I can see why, 6 dreadnoughts is kind of cheesy(seeing as the iron hands completely mechanized army only has 6)

I'll be honest, to me cheese only means you haven't figured out how to beat it/think it's tough to beat.
To be honest six dreads looks cool, but really offers no advantage.

Whilst it would definately be cheezy against certain armies (eg: Harlequins, Arbites, etc), 6 Dreadnoughts shouldn't be too bad to take down for most forces... providing they haven't gone "Iron Warrior" in the Lascannon department.

As far as I am concerned, bring as many lascannons as you want. Don't bother me.

6 dreads would be a challenge to play with when facing a lascannon toting army...

That is like the Blood Angels Furiosos are elites and regular dreads are Heavy. Imagine that coming at u.
