Righto, this is the list of my being constructed Salamander army... It's only 500 points, but it's mine, so listen up.

in a 500point battle i would drop the Command Squad, and max out my tactical squads, i also think of rhinos as a valuable asset 8)

I'm gonig for a cheap army, (as in money-wise) so rhino's are no-no's.

Because look, I only have to buy the commander, two tactical squads and a command squad...

I agree with the not taking the Command Squad idea.

Instead of that Command Squad you could have a Dreadnaught with Assault Cannon and Heavy Flamer.

Dreadnaughts fit in with the Salamander fluff of being great craftsmen and artificers plus it fits with the whole infantry and close range fire-power fluff.

I wouldn't arm your Captain with what he has. He won't get many attacks with what he has. I'd go for a Power Weapon and Terminator Honours, or Power Weapon, Combat Shield and Melta Bombs.

Well if he's going cheap money wise then even the dreadnaught would be a bit of a problem($10.00 more than the command squad in CND funds). Going with 'bought it off the shelf' the combination he's got is about the best it's ever going to get.

Captain and Command squad rushes for close combat,
Tacticals rush forward as well, rapid firing and meltaing and flaming.

Any more suggestions?

I'd still go for the Dread for CC ability too.

Still if you dont want to do that you could cut some points and try to put PowerFists on your squad Sarg's they will come in very handy.

Arrghh...I think I'd stay with what I got, by the way Veq, thanks for all the help you've given me, you too Spirit and Arty...

Dreadnoughts just don't fit with what I'm thinking of what I want my salamanders to be like...

I played a 500 point game the other day against SM.

One squad of 6 jumppack assault marines with 1 sergeant, all with B pistol and some form of CC weapon. One rhino with tac squad of 8 including one flamer and heavy bolter.

He used the rhino as mobile terrain to move his tactical squad behind while the jumpers assaulted on turn 2. Since I had 4 units including one drone squad, I was hard pressed once the jumper got in my face. I concentrated on the jumpers and lost to the tactical squad eventually.
