Okay guys I need a little advice. I just got smashed in a match against a Nid army consisting of:
- Swarmlord w/3x Tyrant Guard - Trygon Prime - Doom of the Insanely Under-costed Cheese w/Spore - Genestealers w/Broodlord - Gaunts What would you field (with 1,000 points, SM or BA) to take this on? |

so in a thousand points your opponent took the swarm lord AND doom? wow...the doom is really hard to take down but if you have a multi melta or some other long range strength 8 weapon just shoot the doom with it until the doom fails a save, at which point you instant kill him. I would also suggest pelting the doom with whatever firepower you ave as the thing only has 4 wounds and so a basic predator with heavy bolters and autocannon can do the job from long range.
That being said, you will need to divert alot of firepower to the swarm lord to cut down his wounds before he gets in combat with you. Fortunately the swarm lord is slow and has to come to you. Until those two special characters are dead just ignore the gaunts and stay in cover around the genestealers (that way if they charge you get to strike first and stealers don't have much in armour and toughness). Hope that helps |

You can fight cheese with cheese: Take Demonhunter allies
![]() For 260 points you can get a squad of 5 Grey Knights with 2 Psycannons, Psicannon Bolts for the Justicar and an Inquisitor with Psycannon. Stick them in cover and let them spell doom to the Doom, and then shred the remaining targets. If you play Blood Angels, and if you have points left, give the squad a sanguinius priest... As troops you can take 2 squads of 5 Scouts (4 Sniper Rifles plus missile launcher), they are good against monstrous creatures. That's another 170 points spent. Get some Landspeeders (with 2 Heavy Bolters) or attack bikes with heavy Bolters to shred the critters The rest can be spent on a HQ and some hard hitting squad, e.g. Blood Angels Honor guard with Jump packs and 4 Flamers. Of course there are other ways to get the job done, I just thought the Demonhunters might come as a nasty surprise

I don't have any DH or WH pieces so allies aren't an option for me. I did learn however that the swarmlord something to run from at all costs!
It also didn't help that when DoM dropped in my Dev squad rolled a 15 for the check and then ran after rolling an 11. :PAlso, wererat don't forget that DoM leeches life from its victims so it will pretty much always have more than 4 wounds. But he can be insta-gibbed, which is how I killed him (Lascannon). Of course I pretty much fired every weapon I had at him that round. |

They did. The new daemonhunters codex is a pdf download. It's basically the same codex with a few pages taken out, one of which is the allies rules.

Turtle up and make him walk. Use empty Rhinos to keep the Doom or the Trygon from having a clear spot to land in and to get in the way of the Swarmlord.

Yes I know he can leech more wounds but he needs to be, and correct me if I'm wrong on this, within 6" of your squad. Since there aren't many other targets to shoot at in his list that shouldn't be an issue.

Really this comes down to killing the DoM, which can be annoying as its probably going after what's going to kill it. The normal response is to leave assault units nearby, but then they get hurt too possibly, but I think that's your best bet, shoot with devs, assault with something else.
The swarmlord is on foot, and does not have fleet. This should not be hard to stay away from. And try to face it in CC is inviting disaster. Also, you said gibed by LasC. If you can go missile heavy against nids. The DoM has an invul, lascannon does no good that a missile can't. As well the Swarmlord only has armour 3, and again, missile and LC both need 2s, no point in overkill here.
