I think that it should be possible for Assault Squads to be configured to carry bolters if you wish. Like, deep strike behind stuff and give them a hail of fire. What you dudes reckon?

That could work Storm bolters might work better for the Unit alowing it to move and shoot 24.

but that sounds like a cool Idea Fast Shooters, would it be like a Tactical squad with Jump packs? you could take Heavy Weapons?

Heavy weapons would be a bit out, but I see them as having like, two special weapons instead. Special Weapon Squads.

Like Meltas, plasmaguns, flamer?, shotguns maybe a sniper rifle? :P I think Assault squads running around with Meltas would be a great tank hunting squad, but expensive.

They do get plasma pistols, which are pretty good against the back of any tank.

I don't see a problem with the idea. But unless you were playing Raven Guard or another army noted for their speed and rapid deployment, points-wise I couldn't see giving an assault marine just a bolter. The weapon list should be expanded to include more variety in assault weapon fits, like the meltagun. But unless you gave the unit Hit and Run (or some ability to duck out of combat) you'll lose these expensive units alot quicker than you'd like.

But they still went through the trouble of including the rule to let people take the jump packs off the assault marines. I see no reason why they couldn't let them swap to a bolter at no cost, as goofy as it still sounds.

Except maybe against 'Nids and Orks. Then maybe...

Its a cool idea but in a way i think it goes against the who idea of assault marines. If you give them bolters people might start using them more like tactical squads than the shock troops they are designed to be

I dunno, jumping 12" across open ground to put about 20 shots of bolter lovin' death is about as shocking as it comes. (With optional plasma/melta love) I don't have a problem with the concept, I'd just be surprised to see people that would actually do it.

I mean... 20 shots at rapid fire or 10 shots with pistols at 12" then 30+ attacks in hand to hand (assuming they all are within 2") including the Sgt.'s optional Power Weapon/Fist of love.

The numbers pretty much speak for themselves.

But then wouldnt you have to upgrade assault squads with true grit and up the points cost of them? thats the point im trying to make.
