Hi All,
A question that's been sticking in my mind recently: Is Bjorn the Fell-Handed worth putting in your army? It's no secret my love for Dreads and Bjorn seems really awesome with his AR13 venerable status and the ability to become an objective (I know, crazy!), but he's more expensive than a Land Raider... Has anyone had real experience with him that made you love/hate the old guy? Thanks! -BT |

By himself, he's not worth it, but he can be worth it when used with other units. During objective games, I like to keep a grey hunter squad by him, so that they can grab an extra objective if need be.

I would really love to field Bjorn but the lack of the Drop Pod option forces him to foot-slog it and I don't feel right using him for static defense. But if you can escort Bjorn with some Rhinos etc, I think he be great as a counterattack/follow-up unit for your advance.

In short:
No In long: Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo oooooo... He costs a silly amount of points for 13 front av and 1 better bs and ws, a 5+ invul which is better then nothing but unreliable and if he dies he has to be held or it will cost you the game. You would be better of with 2 venerable dreads instead of bjorn. |

Lol, really, funniest thing I've read all day! True with the two Ven Dreads, but I really wanted Bjorn for his rules and sniping ability... Maybe I should try the Ven Dreads and then replace them with Bjorn to see who's better! Thanks all! -BT |

He can be, take him with Njal. Thats a lot of points to put into HQ, but since half of Njals powers dont work if you go second, you want Bjorns re roll. He also makes a large and fairly tough target, which is good since you want Njal to survive so he can unleash his storm late in the game. The rest of the army should probably use a few Rhino/Razorback squads as an escort like you mentioned. I think a list like this would work very well and be very fun to play.

I have only seen Bjorn played once in a game. The other guy went first and popped him with a single lascannon shot. :sadnshocked:
I know, long shot by the odds, but it sticks in my mind.

I don't think he was worth the points, but I think he is a cool character.
One thing to consider about him, at the 'ard Boyz and a few others games where I played a balanced list. Most opponents liked the TWC but quite a few asked me if the dred I was fielding was Bjorn ?? I had to tell them no. (I felt he was a massive point sink and not worth his points.) Once I told them no, they seemed to be relieved. This has happened about 4 times until I had to ask why. The two opponents that asked me if it was Bjorn, said that he was a tough character on the board and was truly a tough kill. One guy even related his story that it took a full unit of Fire Dragons with Exarch just to kill Bjorn, even at that he felt it was lucky. Hmm, I wonder if I should try him now that I hear all this stuff about him. WT ** edit for content.

He is tough. I've fought him once, in a 3 player fight, my Tau, my bros Eldar, and my friend and his Wolves. Bjorn took 3 railgun shots, 11 melta shots from Fuegan and friends, who then, after none of these killed him, assaulted him, trying to use Fuegans Fire Axe? to get him. He promptly hacked them to bits and then the following turn blast my Fire Warriors of the only objective i had.
It was scary. Archon Sharrek
