Well, this is a quandary that came up today, when you attach a Wolf Guard to a Wolf Scout squad does it negate the Behind Enemy Lines rule?
I lean on no, but its still a question that needs answering. |

They didn't negate it before, don't see why they should now.

RAI says they don't remove the ability, as the codex already makes exceptions for what you can give the wolf guard if you give them certain upgrades.
RAW says they wouldn't get it as nowhere in their entry does it say they have it. I'm going with the RAI interpretation as being a douchebag is generally a bad thing.

The question is how you interpret there being assigned to the unit. Unlike an IC they are not a seperate entity. They are essentially an upgrade character for the unit that uses the wolf guard section for its options.
From pg 74 of the big book "The special rules marked with an asterisk are automatically lost by an IC joining a unit that does not have the same special rule. These rules are also lost by a unit that is joined by an IC that does not have the same rule." As I already mentioned the Wolf Guard isn't an IC, as a member of the unit he gains the rule. Secondly Behind enemy lines isn't marked as one of the rules that is lost by a unit if an IC would join it.

This question was asked recently and as Berserk Wolf mentioned, it's in the rule book, the answer is toward the bottom, i think the same page.
WG leaders gets the rule because they are attached permanently like a retinue, ICs can join or leave the unit at will. WT
