Well what you put in the army all depnds on what tactic/style of play you plan on using. What style do you plan on going with, stand and shoot, assaulty, balanced, etc... Once you hav decided that, it will be easier for you (and who is ever helping you) to select your units.

Well you can use the Blood Angels Codex , instead of the Vanilla marines Codex. The rules can be found somewhere on the Games Workshop Website , i checked but couldn't find but they may have taken it off when the change the site , it can also be found in White Dwarfs 330 and 331. With this you can use Assault Squads as troops and this can be quite effective against Shooty armies such as Tau or Guard. Also Death Company have 'rending' attacks so there nails in Close Combat. Hope it helped

Well, you “must” put into your list a HQ choice and two troops choices. Blood Angels are typically thought of as an assault style of army. The additional point cost of non-assault related units, and lack of other notable units (present in the current SM codex) does lend itself to that philosophy. From what I have gathered so far, from my games with Blood Angels, is to focus mainly on the troops choices, being assault and tactical squads. You will want to choose weapon upgrades such as power fists and power swords, up to the maximum allowed, for your sergeants and available marines. Your other unit choices are really set up to be supportive of your troops. At least one unit of Honor Guard or Veteran Assault Squad I think is going to be vital. The extra hitting power that those two units can provide will sway a battle in the assault phase. I am planning on using either of them, along with my Death Company, to assume a support role for my regular assault squads (the anvil unit in WHFB terms). I am also learning to appreciate the Baal Predator. With their overcharged engines, you can take advantage of their shooting ability and providing cover for your tac squads. I currently have one, but am prepping another to add to my army list. I don’t have much experience, and I hope that little that I have observed thus far helps. Good luck and keep us updated on your progress. |

I'd reccomend getting at least 2 Death Company models, the box sex set comes with 5, more won't hurt.
Chaplain Lemartes, and maybe Brother Corbulo. Definately Baal Predators, they have the ability to move 6 inches and fire all their weapons defensive and offensive, and they total 12 shots. They cost just slightly more then a Blood Angels Tactical squad and have much better firepower. True Blood Angels style uses lots of assault troops, unfortunately their current codex has their assault troops at a disadvantage over normal marines due to their very much higher point cost. BA Rhinos with a PMS are quite exceptional though, cheap, highly mobile, and a decent amount of firepower for their cost, 4 shots at 24 inches, can even fire them all if it moves 12 inches for the same reason the Baal Predator can move 6 and fire everything. You'll definately want at least 1 Drop Pod and a Furioso Dreadnought. When the furioso gets into combat enemys feel it. Unfortunately I don't have as postive feedback for their "troop" models as their vehicles. But Blood Angels Terminators are nice if you don't mind their un-updated wargear. They cost the exact same amount as Space Marines (some cheaper wargear but most is same price) and give a Death Company model that costs 0 points, Other blood angels squads that give a death company if you compare them to normal space marines have a point cost of 25-40 higher. The army has some advantages, but depending on your army list it's an extremely unforgiving army when it comes to tactical mistakes.

Get at least five DC models(the boxed set). Get a minimum of two assault squads, probably more.
Note that the DC models don't have jetpacks, but essentially everyone puts jetpacks on them. The cost is trivial vs the added use you get from the unit. You'll also need at least one commander. Lemartes and Corbulio are the traditional choices because they're cheap. Incidentally, I have a spare unpainted corbulio model if anyone wants to buy em. Not entirely sure how I bought two of them...wierd. Anyway, back on topic. Do not buy scouts. They are ungodly expensive, and generally ineffective. Likewise, tac marines and devestators are essentially equal in cost, but the devestators can run more heavy weapons. Guess which one is better. Honor guard are expensive, and limited in size. However, vet squads are only slightly more expensive than a regular troop assault squad, have an extra attack per model, and up to three of them can be running a melee upgrade. Also, they are the only assault unit that doesnt need to be taken in units of 5/10. Three power fists or weapons is frigging wicked, too. You definitely want at least one unit of these guys. Dreads are also a great opton. Baals are aright, IMO.

He was referring to their points cost, a BA scout costs roughly 20 points per model, iirc. I'd have to doublecheck their cost. Adding sniper rifles makes them even more expensive. The only real well to use scouts for blood angels to make them worth their cost is outflanking, infiltrating, and scout moves. Best to gear them for close combat to.
Course they take an elites slot, they cost more then normal space marines, they aren't scoring, and they don't provide a death company model. There only advantage over normal space marines is BS4 instead of BS3. But Space Marine Scouts have much much better options, are scoring, and are cheaper, not to mention they come with camo cloaks and can get free sniper rifles. I've loved my baal in 5th, it's been my most effective model so far. I've killed daemonlords and almost entire space marine squads with it. Speaking of corbulo, I actually need one Tyn.

Definitely go with the Death Company and some assault Marines in general, as that's the whole Blood Angels theme. As for HQs I kinda like Dante and Mephiston for their cool models.
