Which would be better to use against orks as crusaders can shoot them from afar and have a good chance of killing quite a few but redeemers wound on a better score and are good at hitting multiple ork units but as the orks get closer will the redeemer get blown up by then and be a waste of 240pts.

I am thinking of starting a small SM force and was actually considering this very question. In particular, what would a band of orcs have that could seriously threaten a land raider close enough to utilize hellstorm cannons?

Redeemer FTW.
Its used to charge at enemies anyway so right before you let them out, or after, cant remember which you burn the **** out of them

I'd vote for the Crusader. Don't forget, those Hurricane Bolter Sponsons are still defensive weapons. You can move up to 12" and open fire with both bolter sponsons, as well as the Assault Cannon. That gives you a lot of hitting power, with a longer range, with greater mobility. In addition, the pintle mounted Multi-melta gives you some stopping power if you need to deal with tanks or the sort.
I think the Crusader is more versatile, and therefore more useful than the Redeemer. Orks hurt when they reach combat, so you want to avoid having that happen. With the Redeemer, you have to be close to open fire. In addition, the S6 AP3 of the inferno cannons are wasted on Orks, as a normal flamer/heavy flamer would do the job just as well. |

It really depends on what is in the ork army you are facing, if its an army with just a bunch of boyz, sur charge up and burn them with the redeemer. But if they are running a ton of nobz and meganobz, like some of the cheese list ork players at my local shop, if you get too close they could claw your land raider, in that case the crusader would be better to allow you to weaken their numbers from a far with the hurricane bolters, then charge em. I'd go with the crusader, but I play Blood Angels and cant take a redeemer

I would day Crusader, without question. Load it with 7 Terminators and any Character that you feel good about and use it to blow a hole in whatever unit the opponent least wants you to destroy.
The fact that the Hurricane Bolters are defensive weapons was brought up earlier, but this is especially important to remember since you can move 6+ inches(meaning that Orks have to roll 6's to hit you) and still fire them.

Nevertheless, the ability to move 6" and fire still makes the Crusaders noticeably more mobile than the basic Land Raider, which has to be stationary to do much at all. EDIT: Bleh, sorry, wasn't up to date on the PotMS rules. Still, even moving 12" would limit you to a SINGLE weapon, rather than both sponsons and Assault Cannons. |

Redeemer as it is a good all-rounder and you're going to get up close and personal. It's Flamer sponsons can kill Marines or any other lunatic in Power Armor. Flamer Templates, in general, has always been good against Horde Armies. You got an Assault Cannon, which is Twin-Linked to boot, don't be afraid to use it for AT along with Anti-Infantry fire. If you think you need more of an AT-oomph, I would upgrade it with a Multi-Melta.
If you're still undecided, MAGNETIZE! So, you can switch between Crusader and Redeemer. |

That and any land raider has PoTMS so it can actually fire 2 main weapons, and 1 of those 2 can be used against a seperate target.
I vote Crusader merely because it can fire from a much greater range, and then start backpeddling while continueing to fire...assuming your actually shooting something you care about getting close to it. Where as the redeemer only gets 1 shot against something that could potentially destroy it and can't backpeddle/continue firing. That and template coverage vs number of shots over distance, the number will probably win as a crusader can offload some odd 11 shots at 24 inches and 17 at 12, You'll get at least 3 rounds of firing before foot slogging orks get in range. Crusaders also have a meltagun? Due to PoTMS if he blitzes a truck at it (it's opened topped) you can actually dedicate the melta to the truk and the rest of the guns to the troops in it...at least you use to be able to shoot troops in an open topped vehicle.
