Default Two Railheads on the Board!!!!?

Questions to all you Space Marine Players:

In playing 1000 points, I will have two Tau Railheads. IS that excessive or just about right?

How many tanks do you usually take in a 1000 point game? ( one LandRaider, Predator, ?????)

Just curious as to what people tend to take?

as a tau player, i take 3 in 1000 points. backe dup by fire warriors.

tank wise, in 1000 points, you'd probably see a predator, whirldwind, and dreadnought as the most likely armour. Rarely would you see all 3 together though.
anyone who'd take a raider in 1000 points is inexperienced, if you ask me.

None can step before them, they are the first, proud in their strength and jealous of their renown. Through the storms of the warp they come, upon the very tides of terror, but of such dangers they are uncaring. They are the Space Wolves, the Undefeated, the bane of the Emperor's foes."

Just wondering why you want Marine advice rather that Tau advice on this?

Anyway..............

It totally depends on the force I'm using.

One of my Salamander forces uses:

1 Dreadnaught
1 Vindicator
1 Razorback

Another 1000 Point Salamander force I use has:

2 Dreadnaughts
1 Vindicator

An Ultramarine Nid Hunter force I want will use:

2 Razorbacks.

In all unless against a really infantry heavy force, I think you would expect to find one or two tanks/dreds and maybe one or two transports.

I don't think two Railheads is overkill at all in a Tau force, although I would consider arming one with an Ion Cannon instead as it can then deal with most armour and heavy infantry.

I asking because I play both Wolf and Tau.

In the Tau, I am redoing a 1000point list that has two Railheads, but in my Wolf army I was thinking of a some tanks in a 1000 point list but having trouble deciding on what armor to take if any.

I was using Dev squads because they seemed to last longer than a tank.

Deadnight: Wow three tanks, what do you opponents say to that? That's like 45% points in heavy support? Does that cream your opponent?

I hardly ever use armour in thousand point games. Most I have used has been dreadnaughts and whirlwinds if any and then usually only one or the other. Devastator squads I find tend to last longer and have a higher chance of doing something than most armour. It eats points like no tomorrow but is usually worth it IMHO.

Yes I agree, Devi Squads are far better especially in smaller games.

This is because a tank can be killed with one heavy weapon shot, taking out all of its effectiveness. This is a big blow in a small game as it takes up quite a lot of your points.

Plus Devi's normally pack more of a punch and aren't undone by combat. The main drawback bieng mobility which is in many missions quite a big issue.

Thanks, I was thinking of taking a poll, but thought it might be not give me enough insight.

In a 1000 points I am seeing quite a few tanks. So I was thinking of loading on Hvy weapons, Saw a LR in a 1000 point Black Templar army.
