I see alot of on some forums about how salamanders are the new fotm, what with their new special character and all.
My best Friend and I have long been talking about starting up a joint salamander task force together, but would hate to add to gameshop tables already glutted with the little green T'auk'cka'era. Its been a while since I've been able to spend alot of time at my local store (been deployed), but are the rumors of how over played they are true? Or is it just a bunch of internets fan boys talking about how awesome sallies are now with no real increase to the frequency they show up at the game table? Let me know your personal experiences, I'd hate to be part of the problem :P Worse comes to worse I'll just refocus onto my ravenwing ideas for a bit until the fanboyism dies down.

You can do Salamanders now providing that you adhere to a few points:
1 ) Consider using a non-Vukan leader. 2 ) Consider not spamming Thunder hammers, Flamers & Meltaguns. That should allow you do field a balanced list with Salamanders. I'm not saying that you can't use Vulkan or that you can't use TH's or Flamers. But the Salamander cheese happens when players combine the two in spamming levels. Hope that helps, Em |

You think thats bad theres a guy in my store who wants to start takeing sisters as allies in his army because of Vulcans special rules.
Havent looked into it much to see if his rules fill in for the army or just Space Marines. |

I think it's less Salamander spam and more "Vulkan" spam. Everybody's got a Salamander successor or are just using a counts as Vulkan, because his chapter tactics make him one of the most powerful HQs in the new dex. Personally I'd love to see a sallies player in my area. I love the fluff and I never see them, and at least against a legitimate Salamanders list it would feel less power-gamey to play a Vulkan list.

I think people would only object to you taking Vulkan if you make reasonable use of his abilities. If you give up Combat Tactics for two or three twin-linked weapons, I don't expect anyone would complain, except those who hate all special characters on principle.

I remember back in high school (around the turn of the century) I only saw one Salamander army. Now indeed they are everywhere because of the special HQ.

><. So long as you don't use Vulkan, I think you would be fine. Since this is vent central I'll phrase it like this: I hate the way Vulkan is played. I think that spamming with flamers because of his special rule is stupid, and is a reflection of the players maturity or lack thereof.

I have played Salamanders only once so far, used my Grey Knights army. I really, don't understand what all the wop-rah is about salamanders, as they are not overpower (which I found). Die like all other marines. Vulkan is not too intimidating as well I found, neither are the assault terminators. maybe it was just me.
I don't find the army is very popular though (at least in my area). We are mostly just drowning in Blood Angels players.

Since the new dex came out I've only seen one salamander army. He did it just because of vulkan and the new rules, and is a bit of a power gamer. He did however paint them magnificently and made custom greenstuff shoulder pads and hides that look great, so I can't complain. I haven't played against him yet, but I am looking forward to it.

I've actually seen a great decline in "Not standard space marines" armys.
Ive seens lots of "Green space marines with sword and wing icons" And a few "Red Space Marines with yellow tear drops"
