You forgot Attack Bike Squadron.
If you're going all shooty, I'd go there or Land Speeders. Otherwise, I'd say Assault/Vanguard to compensate and tie up nasty units down while you whittled away the other enemy units.

I'd go for attack bikes aswell but they are not an option.

There is no 'best' Fast Attack Option for a Space Marine army, as everyone shares different opinions about the miniatures, their rules, stats etc, maybe if you asked "What is your favourite Fast Attack Option and why?" would be better.
My favourite fast attack option would have to be the Assault Squad, because they can be used as tank hunters (equipped with Melta Bombs, Powerfist etc) - or they could be used to flank or deepstrike to close in upon isolated squads and wipe them out. Plus with a Chaplain equipped with a Jump Pack, they're far deadlier. Probably two squads of these guys would be appropriate in an shooty army, as the enemy has to focus on the main force (mainly the shooty part) - and then he has to deal with the two Assault Squads, which'll be a headache.

i prefer assault squads, but i may be a little biased as im actually a blood angel player. so technically i get them as troops instead. i find their survivability in numbers invaluable. and id like to think they can take on most things quite easily

Depending on what style you are going with. Shooty static means you won't really use more then one assault squad, instead you will use landspeeders with two weapon options. I personally love attack bikes with MMs and I use them in every game. The goal is to not put them too close to the action because you don't want them to get charged. Always use a minimum of 2 per squad.
As a blood angel player myself, attack bikes are invaluable to tank hunting, and that has brushed off on me when building vanilla lists. But then again I'm making a Salamander army, so MM are the way to go anyway. 30 Assault marines are fun too, and they're not very expensive. These will do alot of damage as well, if using the rock, paper, scissor method. |

I got a very similar question to the one the OP posted, and instead of opening a brand new topic, this would be as good place to ask.
I am currently running a successor chapter to the Dark Angels and making it a mix between a mech-static force. I currently have a good base of troops with rhinos, a Sternguard squad, two Preds and planning on taking a vindicator soon enough. Unfortunately, I have no fast attack. Should I consider taking assault squads to ward off any enemy units getting close to my vehicles, or should i add more mobility with a ravenwing squadron? Thanks. |

If you have enough points to spare, you could have them both, if not, I say go for the Ravenwing Squadron, for their mobility and fire-power.

Yea but now why? I'm looking at a vanilla SM list (my own creation) that involves using Scout Bikes for my mostly shooty army. The REASON is because I was looking at using the Scout Bikes to Infiltrate close to a unit that is alone or separated, then use scout to get within 12"... then drop 1-2 Drop pods right on them in Turn 1 to hit them with either Sternguard or Vanguards and get all shooty on'em with the pods, the troops and the bikes.
Is this how they're supposed to be used or would I be better to just try to drop the troops normally and use assault bikes?
