Default Librarians/Epistolaries and Wargear

I've always been a fan of Librarians. And the new rules for these psykers are great.
But I'm not sure about how to equip him...
The powers I'll use will surely be The Gate of Infinity and perhaps Quickening or Might of the Ancients. Making him an Epistolary.

Gearwise, I will give him a Terminator Armour and keep his Force Weapon...but what else? A Storm Shield for coolness sake? I'm using a Grey Knight Terminator model to represent the psyker, and a shield would add to the looks...

The tactic I plan to use him in, is him and five Assault Termies in a Land Raider Redeemer. Then warp across the table and flame them in the face. And then proceed to disembark and go melee.

Any ideas, lads?

If you choose those two powers there is no point in giving him the Epistolary upgrade, since he cannot assault the turn he gates. A better combo would be gate/avenger/vortex or quickening/might of the ancients if you are set on the epistolary upgrade. Gate and Land Raiders are a bit redundant too (since you cannot bring the vehicle with you when you gate).

Ah, yes. No need for Epistolary then. ^^
But I'm not so sure about the Land Raider part. I would buy it as a dedicated transport, would it not be part of the squad? He can cast powers while in vehicles, after all.

Dedicated transports are separate units from what they carry. That is why Rhinos give up kill points. A unit is a model or group of models that take their actions at the same time. Though a Land Raider has a huge foot print, so it would be very risky even if the rules allowed it.

Though your librarian can gate from inside a Land Raider. That would probably be very useful with Sternguard.

I wouldn't go too overboard.

Terminator Armor is perhaps the only "necessary" combo for a Librarian, for the invulnerable save. Otherwise he's still a cheap 2 wound HQ, don't overload him with too many wargear options... Storm Shield may not be that bad however, but I'd hardly call it necessary. As stated before, Land Raider and Gate does seem a bit redundant... if he's riding with assault termies, I don't think the Gate would be too useful (since they can't charge, only shoot). I'd drop it for more combat oriented powers and stuff.

Just keep him cheap, he doesn't need a ton of toys to be good. Make sure all your psychic powers/equipment options line up with his intended role too.

I personally love the combination of taking an Epistolarie with Gate/Doom in Terminator armour and a Storm shield. Running him with a squad of 5 shooting-Terminators works well as you get 12 (Pluss a flamer) to 16 (With either a Cyclone or an Assault) at 12 inches. Popping him with them can eliminate tons of objective holders. The only other powers I like to take are Force dome (If not in Terminator armour or holding a Storm shield), Null zone and Vortex. Maybe Avenger if you take him with a unit that has a lot of flame weapons that need to be close like that.

Giving him a weapon (Appart from what he may come with) just looks like a waist of points, as there are four shooting attack powers you can pick from. Terminator armour is almost a must, as if that unlikely event that he fails his psychic test and you need to take an invulnerable save, and it's the only way to take a Storm shield. The Bike may be a nice option, but the Jump pack isn't that good for a Librarian.

I've been toying with my Terminatior Librarian. Gave him the storm bolter and thats not really a waste of points, its only a few and gives him the option of not having deamons rend his soul and all that. Not worth risking your soul over a couple of Grots...

Hmm, i like the idea of an epistolary with gate (if i'm right it would be teleporting?) and some sternguard.

Jumpinto their face, rapid fire sterns and then gate out again ('cos they can use 2 powers)
Very nice

I was under the perhaps mistaken impression that the gate power can only be used in the movement phase.

I don't know... i don't have the rules infront of me.....

But it hit me that they could probably only cast the same spell once... But what if i were to buy the same spell (I.E. Gate) twice... could that mean i could cast it twice in one turn?
