10 tactical marines - plasma cannon, flamer and sergeant with BP and Ccw - 175

10 tactical marines - plasma cannon, flamer and sergeant with BP and Ccw - 175

Razorback - TWL heavy bolter - 40

10 devastators - 3 missile launchers, sergeant with BP - Ccw and signum - 215

Razorback - TWL heavy bolter 40

Total points - 1000

Model count - 30 MEQs, 1 captain and 5 TEQs
Weapons - 3 Heavy bolters, 3 missiles launchers, 2 plasma cannons and 2 flamers

Game one, Marines V Dark eldar.

The dark eldar army was 3 10 man fully upgraded raider squads, a 10 man witch squad in raider, a talos and a drachon with one of his squads. he deployed all his raiders behind some buildings and his talos in some advanced cover. There was 5 objectives dotted around the board and we both started holding one. I had 1st turn and have very little with LoS to much, so rolled my Razorbacks along the edge of the board getting partial LoS on 2 Raiders which with 3 TWL heavy bolters i managed to wreck them both. My terminators ran straight at the Talos. In his 1st turn He moved the other two raiders to get LoS shot killing a few marines from a Tac squad. The newly footslogging squads started moving forward. My second turn started off with me running again at the talos who i knew would have to charge me next turn. I downed the last raider squad with the Devastators and the Razorbacks started work on the Warriors killing 5. In his turn he dropped his witch's off next to one of my tac squads :-\ and Had no choice but to charge my terminators with his talos killing 1 before being smashed apart. the witch's killed 5 marines losing only 1 but the marines held. In the next couple of turns the witch's went though the Tack squad leaving them to charge the Devs but not before they managed to down the last raider, my terminators spend 4 turns chasing a squad of warriors around his deployment zone and one of my combat squads from the second tac squads jumped in a Razorback to move and take an objective to win me the game.

Game 2, Marines V Chaos Daemons

Having won my first game i was playing a daemon army that had won its first game against a dark angles army. The game was capture an control, i lost the roll and had to go first leaving me with nothing to do for a turn. Then when he rolled for what was coming on in his turn he got the wrong half and brought his 15 deamonettes and great unclean one. In my second turn 2 combat squads with flamers in razorbacks moved up unloaded and blasted apart 10 with 3 more added from the razorbacks, the Dev's and plamsa cannons targeted the great unclean one but only took 1 wound off. In his second turn he managed to bring on the other half of his daemons which was a tooled up daemon prince and 20 plague bearers. The great unclean one used some template weapon to toast one of the combat squads, and the daemon prince used some shooting attack to kill 2 on the other. In my 3rd turn i jumped the remaining 3 men in the razorback and moved a full 12" to safety. My Terminators had finally caught up with the great unclean and got ready to charge. the rest of my shooting took a wound of the daemon prince and killed 2 plaguebearers. in the combat phase 2 terminators died before striking back an taking the daemon down to just 2 wounds. the daemon turn 3 started with him moving the plaguebearers towards my objective and his prince using his shooting attack to kill 2 men from my 5 man combat squad with a plasma cannon, who failed there morale test fleeing 11" right off the board. in combat the great unclean one was not hitting at I1 after being clobbered by thunderhamers the previous turn, both of us attacking at the same time resulted in 1 terminator dead and 1 greater daemon dead i consolidated towards the plaguebearers. By this time the game was effectively over as I had only lost 3 Terminators 7 marines and a razorback, while there was about 10 plaguebearers and a daemon prince on 2 wounds. in the last few turned my captain and the 2 terminators held the Plaguebearers while my shooting failed to kill the prince. After 5 turns we rolled the dice and the game ended. It was a bit of a disappointment for me as all that was stopping me from a major victory was a 1 wound daemon prince hiding in terrain and contesting his objective.

Game 3 Marines V Dark eldar (again)

For the last game of the day i was playing another dark eldar army. We were the only two undefeated players so far. This was a true skimmer spam with 5 raider squads all with minimun amount of warriors, 2 ravengers a talos and a really cheap drackon equip just with a gun that pins you. Mission Annihilation. This game was one of the best games of 40k i have ever played. The dark eldar went 1st but was unwilling to move his skimmers into the open so kept them at the back meaning he got a cover save for them, but also i got saves from his weapons. He knew i would have to concentrate on the raiders and talos and ignore the warriors so he set them up to race at me and rapidfire me to death, there was 4 squads of 6 and a squad of 10 with his drackon who accompanied his talos who spend the 1st turn moving into shooting range. The skimmers opened there shooting and a combination on bad to hit rolls and good cover saves meant only 5 marines from a tac squad died. I had a decent 1st turn of shooting and killed a couple of the raiders and immobilised a ravenger and blew a weapon from another (most of the damage being done by the razorbacks). In his second turn his warriors made it into rapid firing range and the talos made into the protection of a wood near my lines. The Warriors Openned up the firring all at the terminators who he really wanted to get rid of to give a clear field to his talos in Cc, 72 rapid firing shots later... 1 terminator dies 1 not so thrilled opponent :'( All the dark lances and dissintegrators were targeted at the razorbacks as with there mobile heavy bolters were too big a threat to the AV 10 skimmers. all that was accomplished was 1 immobilized result (Razorbacks with a cover save are 10 times harder to kill in game then they look like on paper) Everything looked great for me at this point until his economy drackon Pins my terminators
This was not good at all. In my second turn my razorbacks and dev's targets the Skimmers Killing only 1 due to coversaves. while the two 10 man tac squads poured all there fire into the talos, doing exactly nothing. Without my terminators to deal with the talos i was well aware that it would be able to charge me next turn with a decent difficult terrain role. Dark Eldar turn 3 first thing to do was the the roll, a 5 bringing it out of the wood and well within charge range of my tac squad. In the shooting phase the terminators were Finlay wiped out with a combination on 3 dissitogrators and lots of rapidfirring. while the remaining dark lances killed the immobilized razorback. in the combat phase the talos charged and i went to move the rest of the squad into contact, it was bad but not disastrous until i was reminded that that squad also contained my captain which i had completely forgot about. the combat was swift, 5 dead marines and i could do nothing back yet a roll of 3 kept me in cambat. In my 3rd turn my razorbacks downed another raider leaving only 2 alive and one of them was weaponless. the devastators killed warrior squad for an easy kill point it was 4 to 2 at this point in my favor. in the combat i lost 2 more marines and yet again could not roll the 6's needed to wound the monster. In the next turn nothing much happend for both of us as we had lost most of out firepower and both sides were returning fire and 1 razorback was killed some marines and a few warriors were killed. Turn 5 was a bad one for the marines the drackon who had only 3 warriors with him shot at the 10 man devastators squad causing 3 wounds, all of which were failed an the other 7 duly failed there morale test and ran off the board ??? Left on the board at this point were;
a talos in combat with a captain neither had lost any wounds,
1 marine with a flamer,
1 razor back,
4 dark eldar skimmers, 1 weaponless and 1 immobilized
6 man warrior squad
4 man warrior squad with drackon

Kill points are 4 to me and 5 to the DE

IT is My turn 5 and very little happend nothing killed with shooting and in combat the captain losses a wound but keeps fighting. we roll for turn 6 and its a 5. Turn 6 and both mobile skimmer move to get shots off at the razorback neither could kill it. And In the combat which was really starting to drag on i managed to hit 4 times and rolled 3 6's slicing the talos apart and leaving the captain on 2 wounds.

5-5 in kill points and my turn 6. the captain joined up the the last marine before charging into the drackon and 2 warriors ( 2 were killed by the marines flamer in the shooting phase) the drackon killed the marines before my captain smashed him and both warriors apart ending the turn. A 2 was rolled an the game ended leaving with a minor win on 7-6 kill points.

3 games played 3 games won. I ended the tournament with best general

Things i learnt about the marine codex

1 - Combat squads are awesome for tournament play
2 - Assault terminators are also awesome, since there the perfect for taking out Uber HQ's and Monsterours Creatures people like to take to tournaments
3 - razorbacks Are amazing, for 5 points more than a rhino you get a great gun that can be used on the move. In cover they are also very resilient. These were deffiantly my favourite unit of the whole day.
4 - With there new stats and equipment a captain with just a power weapon makes a cheap but powerfull HQ.

And Lastly the new marine codex is immensely fun to play with and ill be taking them to the next tournament i attend

tom.

Congratulations, it seems that the last game was full of "suspens".
And, I agree with you for the Razorback. It's definitely becoming THE SM troop carrier.. (as intended by the Mechanicus..)
But one thing, is a little "bizarre".
The combat squad are to be decided, at the begining of the game (during deployment) or when they disembark, for those in landing pods...
So,as you did, is it possible to take a Razorback with a 10 men squad ?
It seems a little strange to me.

Yeah its quite clear in the tactical marines entry in the codex.

"may select a rhino or razorback. If the squad numbers 10 models, may take a drop pod."

Yes, a 10 man squad may choose a razorback as an option. When deployed, they can combat squad with 5 men inside the razorback and 5 left on foot. This is quite an attractive option for agressive/passive tactical squads, leaving the heavy weapon on foot, and taking a flamer specialist and combi-flamer sergeant in a razorback to the front of the enemies.

Aha!!!! that is exactly what I've been wanting to do, but I hadnt been able to think of a way to do it (if that made sense).
Thankyou Ninja Ork. Thank you so very much.
