Default How does this 1850pt. space marine army look?

Ok, this is basically my first space marine list and I decided to go with an ultra- assaulty, all drop- pod army (so obviously all of my units have drop pods), so how does it look?

HQ:

2 space marine master commander- 200pt.
-iron halo
-drop pods

command squad- 360pt.
-sergeant & 9 space marines armed with a bolt pistol and close combat weapon
-furious charge
-drop pods

ELITE:

1 sqaud of 8 assualt squad terminator - 344pt.
-furious charge
-drop pods

2 dreadnought- 250pt.
-both with lascannon
-drop pods

TROOPS:

2 groups of 7 space marine-260pt.
-both with rocket launchers
-drop pods

HEAVY SUPPORT:

3 predator annhilator- 435pt.
-each with lascannon sponsons

TOTAL: 1849pt.

ok, I know its somewhat of a different army, but I though I'd give it a try. Please rate and fix this army.

Do you have any traits? If you do, please list them since it could drastically change your list and people's impressions on it.

Let's see, why do you have 2 SM commanders? I would recommend changing one to a Chaplain to get his Litanies of Hate, with an all CC squad he would rock hard. And what are your HQ armed with, all it says is that one has an Iron Halo. And you don't have to get them drop pods if they are part of a command squad that has one.

I would switch the Lascannons on the Dreads for Assault Cannons, the new rules just make them awesome. I also think that 3 Predators is a bit of overkill, especially since they all have Lascannons.

One last thing: this list looks very powergamer-ish. You have the minimum troops choices and 2 massive squads elite squads that are geared to annihilate the opponent in CC. And the fact that you only have 34 models on foot (ie not a vehicle), you would receive massive casualties the turn they come in, especially since they WILL come in piecemeal. Come to think of it, since the Preds start on the table, the will be torn to shreds on turn one since the opposing army has nothing else to shoot at.

I think you should rework the list to have more troops geared to CC with the 'Take the Fight to Them' trait and bring in some Assault Squads so they can Deep Strike with your Drop pods.

I'm probably just gonna remake the whole list and turn it into a balanced army with some CC and some shooting.

Default how does this improved space marine army list look?

Since I'm not too good at making assualty marines, I decided to go with an all infantry, shooty marine army, so how does it look?

HQ:

Master commander- 105pt.
-iron halo
-storm bolter

Command squad- 155pt.
-9 space marine-
-missile launcher

ELITE:

2 squads of 9 veteran space marine- 359pt.
-tank hunters
-one group has a missile launcher
-one group has a lascannon
-1 group has a plasma gun

TROOPS:

2 groups of 8 space marine- 280pt.
-both groups have missile launcher
-both have a plasma gun

2 groups of 8 space marine- 270pt.
-both groups have a heavy bolter
-both have a plasma gun

HEAVY SUPPORT:

3 groups of 8 devastator- 675pt.
-2 lascannon, one heavy bolter, one missile launcher

TOTAL: 1844pt.

Please rate and fix this army.

really, you didn't need a second topic to do revisions...you coulda just posted the revised list in the same thread...soooo: threads merged

now, as for critique: you're not even gonna think about giving your commander some combat power?? its a good idea, even if its just a single lightning claw. next, kinda stationary with the revision...maybe a jump-packing squad in place of one of the veteran squads would be handy, for those missions where you're forced to move. and finally, no combat power...you get in combat with anything (eg DP with wings) and you're wrecked. there's nothing in there atm that can take it. a jump-packing squad with a sarge with PF would help, as would maybe the occasional sarge with PF. just to add a few invisible fists, to make people think twice before assaulting your squads

With the Revised list I'd:

* Give the Commander a BP/PW and Honours and a Jump Pack
* Drop theCommand Squad
* The Veteran Squads arent really worth it if your going to be shooting with them. Drop then or change them into CC squads, although Vet squads arent the best choice for a CC squad IMo.
* Even numbers are better
* The Marine Squads with H.Bolters and Plasma, max them to 10. Think about giving them a Rhino with EA/SL so you can scoot them about.
* The other 2 Squads you could change down to Las/Plas squads, 6 man.
* Devastators are VERY effective, when they have a defined role. Your getting 3 of them, very nice. But their weapons means they don't do anything well at all. Your always wasting one weapon. Get 1 Squad of 10 with 4 Missile Launchers and 1 with 4 Heavy Bolters.
* You should have points spare (Sorry can't find my calculator lol) but use them to get a nice Counter Charge unit. A 10 man Assault Squad with either 2 Plasma or 2 Flamers and a Sergeant with PF is very effective. You can let your HQ join this unit if you want.
* Any points spare? Try and get another 10 or 8 man squad with a Heavy and Assault or a 6 man Las/Plas.

What have we learned? Devatators are really good, but with mixed weapons they are no way near as good as they can be. Specialise theor roles...4 ML is just great at everything, but not as good as 4 HB's for infantry. 4 Lascannons are too expensive so put them into your 6 man units. You also want as many bodies in the Devastator Units so they start losing weapons later. Not sure how many points are left but try and get more Troops IF you can, a SM horde is just plain annoying ^^

Good Luck and I hope I helped.

acutally, after playing a little dawn of war, I decided I want to go with a balanced space marine force, but I have some questions. First of all, what types of units are good all around units, and also what is a good ratio for CC:shooty?

I would say Tactical Squads are rather, well, tactically optimised :P. Go with a few of these, possibly taking the Trust Your Battle Brothers trait (I think that's the one) so you can hold your own if you get attack in assault. If not, screen your troops with some CC squads to keep you out of CC too much, and if the assault is getting desperate, throw some Tacticals in there since they got True Grit.

Hmm, good CC to Shooty ratio? I can't realy think of one, although I would probably lean to shooting a little more and have some units screen your Tacticals.

ratio?? there is no hard and fast rule for this...it'll all come down to how you feel like playing 'em. so start with maybe one assault squad, then see if it feels like enough combat power for you. then, if it does, all done, if not, just add another, and so on

so go one/two assaulty sqauds and then add more as I see fit? and also, does the strategy of starting out with a commander and two troop choices and then getting one thing from each of the troop selections really work like in the codex?
