I recommend that you sit down with him at the local GW and find out what he thinks is the coolest darn thing ever. If he likes things that are similar to a started chapter, I suggest that you use them, as they require the least amount of work fluff-wise. However, if none of the famous chapters appeal to him, then he should make his own (or if he really wants to).

As for starting off, the Battle for Macragge set is awesome since you get the rulebook (albeit smaller) and a tactical squad for 50 USD. To build from that, I recommend either the Battle Force or Mega Force, a they save you quite a bit of money (~45 USD for a battle force and ~75 USD for the mega force) and are a nice, balanced force.

Oh, and there's a forum-wide crackdown on sloppy posting, so you're probably going to be warned about it - just thought you should know.

Did i miss something? you do mean United State Dollar? Or do you Mean that is how much you save? Because otherwise those prices are way off.

I'm telling you how much you save by purchasing the battle force or mega force, not how much they cost. Here, I'll show you:

Battle Force - $90

Contains
Tactical Squad $35
Combat Squad $20
Scout Squad $20
Assault Squad $25
Rhino $30

That totals to $130. This means that you save $40. I'll admit that I was off, but that's why I put the "~" which means "about", and you might very well save five bucks on tax.

Plus, if you buy from places like BWBits or the Warstore, who usually take 10-20% off, then that means you can usually pick it up for something like $72-80.

Yeah, there are a few online stores like that, but BWBits is dead (more or less) and everywhere else you have to phone/e-mail/mail in your order since GW let out the legal sharks...

But yeah, they give 20% off usually, and with BWBits a battleforce would come to about $80 with shipping, though the actual cost would be $72. Of course, the Warstore has cheaper shipping, so you could get a battleforce for ~$76, if they offer the same 20% discount.

Or you can just wait for the $400 battle battalion box. It should be out in the next couple of months.
