Default Quick Deathwatch Kill-Team Question

Hello all,

I've been interested in making a Kill-Team, and given the fact myself and a friend of mine collect (so far) exclusively xenos, Deathwatch sounded like a good idea. That, and that they just look awesome.

So, my simple question is this: Can, and should, I use Deathwatch Kill-Team rules, such as those found found on the GW website, and build a unit using the powerful but expensive Deathwatch Kill-Team, or should I use the Space Marine codex and construct a squad using the Space Marine Veterans entry?

I like the pricey punch a Deathwatch Kill-Team has, but I'm not sure if it would really be allowed, and if I do use it, if it should count as a broken 'Law', Mutable or Immutable. I'll settle for a Space Marine Veteran squad just fine if this is not the case.

The Deathwatch Kill team is totally useable in normal Kill Team missions with the usually rules. I find that they excel in specialist roles (I put 6 with a Librarian in my son's Space Marine army). They have access to some great weaponry as well. A Deathwatch Kill team can be tailored to fight many different foes. I'd say go for it.

Yep, check out the first page of the Deathwatch rules. Actually, its open to all sorts of beardiness since you could technically make 9 of each of your 10 man tac squads deathwatch. But if you use them in moderation, they can be sorta fun. They make good Aspect Warrior killers if you give them Kraken bolts and toss a few in each of your squads. Likewise, they work well in conjuntion with a Terminator or Assault Marine list since they can arrive via Deepstrike.

The team my son currently runs is a Librarian Codecier with Might of Heroes, 1 Deathwatch veteran with Lightning claw pair, and 5 Deathwatch marines with Bolters & Close Combat Weapons. They can sometimes have specialist ammunition - but it tends to defeat the purpose of the close combat orientation.

If he runs them with the tac squads, typically their divied up into the squads (maybe 1-2 to a squad) with a close combat oriented squad (flamer, lightning claws, sergeant with pistol & sword, etc), then maybe a couple longer range squads (heavy weapon, a few deathwatch with Kraken bolter or M40 sniper/bolters). I find that they add a lot of flavor to the units.

Yes, you can use them in normal missions, some beardy Guard players take them to fill the assault Vacuum in the Guard list (me).
They are better than GK's in the way they dont give your foes access to greater daemons and Unlimited Daemon packs.

Thanks for the answer.

They do look quite powerful in normal missions, so the Kill-team may double as allies for my future Daemonhunter force.

Deathwatch are amazing. They have always earned back over their points with me (even when I field 400+ points worth in a squad!). Take them, and enjoy.

Sorry bout this but hijacking the thread for a sec. Got my own DW question & didn't think it needed its own separate thread. On using Deathwatch upgraded Space Marines it says I can upgrade Independent Characters and certain squads to Deathwatch memebers. Does this mean they get the Deathwatch special rules? (True Grit & Deep Strike)

Ok, how does a Kill-Team of one Captain, 4 Marines, two with M.40 Targeters and ammo? This isn't the team I'll use in any Imperial army, but merely my Kill-Team. I like the sniping feel it gives me.

then you should give the captain a bolter, as to maintain a static feel

i personally always run this team
captain, plasma pistol + power weapon
5 veterans
1-heavy bolter w/ suspensors
1-power fist
1-power weapon
1-special ammo
1-melta gun

i plan on getting a librarian to replace the captain, and i also join them with my techmarine, to form a monstrous close combat squad
