Default Black Templars

I just wanted to know if my list in the list section (my 1850 list), is possible to be a Black Templar army. And are there any things that set regular space marines apart from them?

thanks

The Black Templars have a few notable differences from standard Marines. For Starters they don't have scouts. Instead they can attatch Neophytes (scouts) to Initiate squads (Tactical Squads) to get squads up to 20 men strong. They also have the Emperor's Champion who is a fairly good CC combatant that the Black Templars can take. They do not have veteran sergeants but instead have weapons upgrade options in many squads. Instead of Veterans they have Sword Brethren and their zeal means that when hurt they have a good chance of moving towards the enemy. The Black Templars also have a decent selection of Special Characters including High Marshal Helbrecht and the Chaplain Grimaldus.

The Black Templars also have some unique armory entries including Holy Hand Grenades (which are surprisingly alike the Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch from Monty Python and the Holy Grail). Another thing about the is they can mix equipment in their basic Initiate squads to have a combination of bolters, special weapons and ccws and bolt pistols.

For more information you can look at this thread and this thread both listed in the Important Topics thread.

In fluff terms they are one of the, if not the largest, chapters, with an estimated 6,000-10,000 marines. They are the most zealous of the chapters, which keeps the Inquisition off their backs,

Inquisitor: You are a heretic!
Templar: Crusade for the Emperor! *runs off and kills xenos, daemon, and heretic*
Inquisitor: Um... okay, so you're not a heretic *turns away in shame whilst being laughed at by other Inquisitors*

They are the most powerfull Marine chapter, in both skill in close combat(rivaling the space wolves(depending on the crusade)), and in size(see above). Paraphrasing the Templar Codex(dont remember the page):

Quote:
If all the Templar were ever mustered in one place for a war, they would be a nearly unstoppable force.

By the way, they can't take a whirlwind or librarian (Abhor the witch!!) and have a realy usefull upgrade to their land raider crusader's that nulifys the lance special rule (yay!). Oh and obviously they are the coolest, toughest, most powerful marines around .

  • Shame on you, Vash. You didn't mention the Vows of the Templars (I think thats what they are called), which, at least IMHO, are the coolest part!

Basically in games 750 points or over you HAVE to take The Emperor's Champion, who has absolutely no options... except the Vows of the Templars. (He is damn good in CC, though, so don't sweat it. And he can target IC's in squads in CC). Basically, you get to choose on of the following four Vows for up to 50 points (total).
    • Suffer Not The Unclean to Live
You get extra strength at slightly lower intiative. Very useful when playing against armies who have two lower intiative than you, that way you hit first still.
    • Uphold the Honor of the Emperor
You get a 6+ invulnurable save but no cover saves... ever. Not reccomended unless you are playing a no-terrain board or something.
    • Abhor the Witcoh, Destroy The Witch
At the beginning of the game you get an extra move towards any psykers. Good if its a psyker heavy army. Crap if its not.
    • Accept Any Challenge No Matter the Odds
Probably the most used. You get the "Prefered Enemy" special rule against EVERYTHING.

And the best part is you are technically allowed to change it before every battlle, though almost every Tournament Organizer says "NO!!!

Seriously, they say it in size 32 font with 3 exclamation points.
