hey everyone

as you can see I'm kinda stuck and i need some advice on what model i should get next. to start with i thought of termis but then i remembered there are two types and then i remembered playing against a marine army with a whirlwind and i got mauled cause it took out my dread on its first turn.

so any help would be much appreciated

Close combat terminators, just because they look cool.

Assault termies, because if they get into the enemies lines, then there will be nothing left.

Assault terminators are fire magnets that never get into the enemy lines. Cost lots, draw fire, never win back their own points. AND... you don't get assault cannons! But regular terminators get powerfists and plenty of other assaulty stuff in addition to...ASSAULT CANNONS!

In case I didn't make myself clear, regular terminators are far more likely to be efficient because they can get ASSAULT CANNONS!

i am going to GW tommorrow so i think i might just get both types of termis and then i can pick and choose

Personally I would look at a couple of things:

1. What armies do you play against the most? If the answer is Powered armor then most likely the whirlwind isn't the answer... but if your regular opponent loves the nids or is a eldar fanatic then the whirlwind is a good call.

2. What army do you play? I know "duh, its the marine forum". What I mean is do you play dark angels, black templar, your own DIY marines? Dark Angels can mix and match, plus if you get the the veteran sprue and an assault terminator box you have everything you need to make that mixed unit with the assault cannon. Black templars with their ability to move forward when they're shot would tell me to go with the assault terminators... just some things you should think about.

3. Which is aesthetically the most pleasing to you. Sure the whirlwind might not be the best bet against marines, but if you love the look of the model it might be worth the 100+ pts to attempt to use it (personally I prefer assault terminators and vindicators for the looks...)

Well if you just want to throw a new unit in Whirlwind is easiest. Its pretty cheap, still able to kill marines and nasty to anything with a worse save. Termies are good but you have to incorporate them completely into the list. You can't just throw them in (at least in my experience). So I'd say Whirlwind for now.
