Default Ideal Devastator loadout?

So I just got me a Devastator box.

What would you guys recommend as the best weapons loadout?

My opponent plays Space Marines. He uses a lot of infantry, some termies, and his big killer is his Land Raider. Before the Devs arrived I had nothing that could take on that armor. (Literally nothing, apart from melta bombs on my Assault Squads.) What do you guys think would be the best Dev setup to counter his army?

Or you could try to save some points and go with 2 missile, 2 plasma. Still able to take out vehicles, a few points less, but you'll have to come up with the second missile launcher as the devastator squad only comes with one....

I personally wouldn't rely on plasma to take out armor, not high enough strength to be reliable, or even touch a land raider... but the Terminators on the other hand...

well i made mine with 2 missile 2 las.

With possibility to load out for hoard hunting and swap the las for plas

But whats the rest of your army? You have stuff that counter his lots of infantery?
If you want the devestators to take out the landraider take as many lascannons as you can. Otherwise go for heavy bolters.

If you bought a tac squad box you should have a spare missile launcher. The overall best general purpose dev squad is the 4 ML squad which allows you to take on anything. Your specific problem seems to be that landraider. To counter that I would take the 2 LC you get in the dev box and put those marines in your tac squads to spread out your fire (this assumes you are not taking traits that give you tankhunter or the like). LC are much cheaper in tac squads than in dev squads.

For the dev squad do the 4 ML if you have the parts. If not do a combo of HB and ML. This should allow you to do anti-infantry with an option for antiarmor if things get dicey. If you have to shoot the ML at the termies be sure to use frags to up the number of saves he has to make. Even termies roll 1's from time to time.

One other neat trick I picked up from Mal is to put the LC in a stripped down Vet squad and take the tankhunter skill. Presto, S10 vs armor for that landraider.

Interesting.

Yeah, I have 2 tac squads, a sniper squad with a rocket launcher, an assload of assault marines, some bikes, an anti-infantry Dreadnought, and a Land Speeder. The two problems that my opponent poses to me are either the LR, which I can't score hits on, or his own army of Dev squads (I can't really close into range against 8 rocket launchers on the back of the board.)

There's 2 dev squad configurations I like. 1 is a pure dakka 4 heavy bolter monster. the other is the quad missiles. I know people will often gun for dev squads so I like to have a good number of models in them. Unfortunately a big 4 lascannon dev squad gets too expnsive for my tastes, and wastes bolter shots. The plasma cannons have the same cost problem

The best thing about the hwavy bolter dev unit is that it's probably going to be firing at infantry anyway, so you can not only make a decent sized squad, but your bolters won't be wasted firing on things they can't hurt. The missile launchers are more likely to be firing on tanks, but the frag rounds are still useful, so the bolters wont be completely wasted. Plus there's the added bonus of versatility there
