So, I have this small SM army and am thinking of painting and playing them as Salamanders (Good base color and have a distinct feel to them without being one of the well-known chapters that sometimes elicit cries of cheese. Plus, they are not melee optimised.). Upon looking up their new traits in 4ed. Codex, I found myself a little confused.
The Cleanse and Purify trait says that a tactical marine can "replace" his missle launcher with a flamer or his lascannon with a melta or plasma gun. After pondering, I interpret this to mean that I must first pay the cost of the ML or lascannon first before swaping out the replacement weapon. Do I have this right? And if I do, is it worth it to pay the extra points for more of the assault weapons? Thanks for taking the tiem to read this.

Yes, you have interpreted it correctly.
I think being able to drop pod in and shoot two melta shots would be effective.

You have indeed interepereted this rule correctly, I see it as a small price to pay to be able to move and shoot 2 weapons instead of lugging around a heavy weapon all the time...

I'll chorus in on the fact that you read the trait right and agree that having to assualt weapons can be worth it. Sometimes two flamers even can be deadly specially versus massed horde armies. Twin plasma guns though probably ranks top for best all round loadout I think though. heavy enough to damage most anything and can rapid fire if need be.

Cleanse and Purify is my favourate trait and well worth the points to have Tactical squads with a pair of plas or meta guns!
Then go for the drop pod assault and land you force right in the middle of the enemy! |
