Default Are the Blood Angels the *true* Assault Cannon junkies?

OK, Deathwing are suppose to be the army about massing Assault Cannons to win (don't take it too literally, but it's something you notice). The pluses of that is rending, volume of shots, the strength of the shots, and the armour piercing value of the shots. But as I was flipping through my codex, I saw the 'Baal' Class Predator (not the first time though), and I wondered "With the new Assault Cannon rules, could Blood Angels mass enough of these in a 2,000 point game?" Well I got up to 15 normal ones and 3 twin-linked ones, is this the max?

The Rending Terror

HQ - Points: 36
Leader Points: 36
Storm Bolter
Close Combat Weapon

Elite - Points: 720
Terminator Squad Points: 240
5 Members
2 Assault Cannons

Terminator Squad Points: 240
5 Members
2 Assault Cannons

Terminator Squad Points: 240
5 Members
2 Assault Cannons

Troops - Points: 140
Scout Squad Points: 75
5 members
Missile Launcher

Blood Angels Scout Squad Points: 65
5 members

Fast Attack - Points: 720
Land Speeder Tornado Squadron Points: 240
3 Members

Land Speeder Tornado Squadron Points: 240
3 Members

Land Speeder Tornado Squadron Points: 240

Heavy Support - Points:384
'Baal' Class Predator Points: 128
Heavy Bolter Sponsons
Extra Armour
Smoke Launchers

'Baal' Class Predator Points: 128
Heavy Bolter Sponsons
Extra Armour
Smoke Launchers

'Baal' Class Predator Points: 128

That is just a sample list, it's to help the discussion along. So, are the Blood Angels the *true* Assault Cannon junkies?

You could probably drop a couple termie squads from the elites section, use a couple Dreadnoughts in their place and bolt a termie command squad onto the commander (provided you give him some termie armour of his own). You'd retain the same number of assault cannons and save...45 points? Enough to buy some shiney extras for your vehicles or characters.

What the hell is a 'Leader' though? Only 36 points? I've never heard of them. Are they a Blood Angels only thing?

With Blood Angels codex still *legal* and in the past, they still use the Leader, Commander, and Force Commander system.

Edit: Tom, I couldn't do that, they are bound to Blood Angels Honour Guard.

Leaders are no longer legal, but for the most part your right.

In a 2000 pt min/maxed deathwing army I can only get 15 assault cannons.

Nananananananana leader! Nananananananana leader! Leader, leader... BATMAN! I mean LEADER!

Sorry, had to do it. They did FAQ the old marine sub-dexes into using the hero entries from the new book

Anyway, that bit of sleep deprived lunacy aside most marine armies can manage that number of assault cannons without too much trouble. Remember that the Land Raider Crusader is no longer restricted and it comes with TL assault cannons. Of course it may be harder to pull it off in 2000pts, but it's still possible to field an utterly demented number of the things with most marine chapters. However doing so may result in people throwing stuff (rotten fruit etc)

Indeed just using vanilla rules you could get 9 Land Speeder Tornados, 2 Characters with Termi command squads and 2 ACs, 3 squads of termies with 2 each, and 3 Land Raider Crusaders. Thats 22 if Im counting it right. Not sure as to the points value but you could do it. Course yes the rotten fruit would be a problem...

Actually a vanilla chapter can get MORE assault cannons overall than Blood angels, though it would require quite a few points.

Max Marine assault cannons

2 HQ terminator squads
-4 Assault cannons

3 Elite Terminator squads
-6 Assault cannons

3 Squads of Land speeder tornadoes
-9 assault cannons

3 Land Raider cruasaders
-3 twin-linked assault cannons

Total assault cannons in the army: 22 (3 of them twin-linked!)

The Blood Angels get more bang for their buck though with their Baal Predator. The Termie Command Squads might give you an extra four assault cannons, but like you said, such an advantage is offset by the cost of the Crusaders. I think only in 3000 point games and the like can vanilla chapters realistically expect to outgun the Blood Angels in terms of assault cannon shootiness; in smaller games, the Baal Predator offers three comparitively cheap assault cannons in the Heavy Support slot.

Yeah, my point was that they get the most in the 2,000 game limit. ^-^
