Default How do you equip your Chaplain?

I was wondering, a friend of mine this weekend had a squad of termies with a termie chaplain, the squad had 2 assault cannons, but the problem is his chaplain, who also had an assault cannon, this is legal or even possible.

Absolutely not, the Chaplain is stuck with a Storm Bolter. Don't let your friend pull that stunt again.

While the chaplain cannot under any circumstance have an assault cannon, he also is not "stuck" with a storm bolter. He has the options of a power fist, chain fist, thunder hammer, storm sheild, power weapon, any of the combi weapons, storm bolter etc....

Its simply a matter of taste and play style. In a more aggresive unit one might see fit to give him a powerfist so as to be able to take on all comers, whilst a shooty list will most likely give him a storm bolter. Simply a matter of choice.

Default How do you equip your Chaplain?

So I made a list the other day, and as usual, I was stuck on deciding what to give my chaplain. They come standard with some pretty nice equipment, and with the inclusion of special rules, they and any unit with them become a unit to be reckoned with. This happens almost every time I take a Chaplain and I was wondering what you guys out there equip them with?

I ended up giving him:
Terminator Armour
Storm Bolter
Purity Seals

Ender

EDIT: wow....now that I think of it, Purity Seals were a waste :P

A Chaplain is made for assault-oriented Space Marine armies. Rerolls
on the charge and Fearlessness are two key attributes. Your Chaplain is a cc
monster and so is his sqiuad with these attributes. He comes with a power weapon
and an invulnerable save. Yet we have some viable optins that will improve him.

Jump Pack Chaplain

In an assault squad with 2 plasma and vet w/ pf ...

He will need a jump pack of course. Making him a Master is an option for the
extra save and leadership. I personally like teminator armours for the extra attack. Do not forget to add your bolt pistol and frags.

I've seen some use an Adamanine Mantle on their chappies but I would leave him
attached to the squad without one. If you are worried about a lucky las shot go for it ...

So we have a character that gets six WS5 S5 I6 power weapon attacks on the
charge, with rerolls for the squad and the ability to stay in the cc until
one side is wiped out. Not too shabby.

cost for chappie: 137

You get this character for a better price by just toning him down to a reclusiarch.
You will lose one wound and reduce his leadershp by one but he becomes affordable
even in smaller games.

cost for chappie: 122

But who says he is in an assault squad? Perhaps you want a chappie on a bike?

Bike Chaplain

You will use the same reclusiarch configuration as above but with a bike. Now we
have a very expensive squad here. You probaly will have three bikes( two w/ meltas),
a vet sarge w/pf and an attack bike w/ hbs. Of course you can take less bikes
or drop the attack bike. If you go for the uber squad shooting followed by
an assault (bikes shoot and assault) you will likely take downa squad of ten meqs.
Those six power weapon attacks and two pf attacks - all rerollable - are pretty devastating.
Your three heavy bolter, two melta gun and all those regular bolter shots should
take down some four or five marines before the charge. Even better the melta
guns can ht down tanks if necessary. This is a nice squad but generaly too
expensive for a smaller game.

cost for chappie and squad: 370 - 400

Deathwing Chappie

Now it should be noted that Deathwing will at times use a terminator
chaplain to lead an assault squad of termies armed with lightning claws.
Again, he is configured as above but with termiaor armour added
instead of a jump pack or bike. I never, I repeat NEVER, use a termie
assault squad. They will undoubtably win their assault. But you need to
getthmthere first and then you need toet them in cover before they
ae shot to pieces. I'll stick with ACs on my terminator squads.

My favorite use of a Chaplin is giving it artificer, attach it to an 7 man assault termie (all lightning claws) and stick it in a landraider crusader. Sure, it's a hell lot of eggs in a AV14 basket, but when pulled off right... well, use your imagination.

I use the 122 point reclusiarch mentioned above. he rolls with one of my elite dragon claws squads (in my upcomind black dragon army)

Setup:
Reclusiarch
Bolt pistol
Crozius
Jump Pack
Frag grenades
terminator honours.

as bebe said, a mad amound of PW attacks on the charge, as well as rerolls. also, he makes that one, Elite squad amazing. it really works wonders.

... and if things go wrong an enormous waste of points. i just cannotjustify this use.
Ye, oncethey assult out the LRC they will kill one squad. in return theywill be mowed down by a smart opponent. but hey, if you like it and it's been workig for you ...

I'm assuming an asault squad, yes? It's also my favorite use of the chappie and
the model is sweet to boot.

There is one configuration I have used on occasion but
put aside recently in favour on a libbie on a bike w/ FoA
( that for another discussion )

- Termnator honours
- Artificer armour
- Adamantine mantle
- Bike
- Thunder hammer

You can use five S8 attacks at Init 1 or
choose to use the crozius at regular Init.
As an Ic he gets skilled rider for free. His
turbo boost with the adamantine mantle makes him
tough to take out and if deployed carefully
you will be rolling totarget hif he is not
the closet target. A turbo-boosted 2+ save
is always going to give your opponent headaches.
You are spending alot of pointso this guy.
You need to create havoc and confusion, and use his
tactical advantage so he repays himself in kills.
