Default Dreadnoughts, what do you use them for?

Personally I use them to soak up fire. I really don't understand why people are so terrified of dreadnoughts. There slow, only have 2 attacks, and have low armor. Their really easy to kill yet people pump 300 points of shooting into a 105 point machine. Thats why I keep them. They take fire, for my troops and other tanks, are cheap, and if they last long enough can pump out a few shots.

Vote on how you use your dreadnought(s) and why.

Hmm I can't modify the poll, so maybe if we get an admin to do it? set two votes as the limit.

I also use mine for a different purpose; they've very versatile. I use mine to support tactical squads moving ahead of them. With an assault cannon and DCCW, they can destroy tanks and infantry with ease and lend assistance should their supported arm get assaulted. The heavy flamer also comes in handy for softening up units in cover before the Tac squad goes in.

Heya,

The poll has been edited to allow two votes.

That said, I use my Dreadnought sometimes, and when I do, I usually do it as merely an extra armor value to tempt enemy guns with, and if in range, an added gun to deal damage. If I get first turn, or if I manage to take out a good portion of the anti-tank my opponent has that is truly threatening (ie: easily beats something A12 without even trying, like a Railgun), then sometimes the Dread can survive a while and be a good addition. It's a vehicle, and it's mobile terrain practically. That's my main use of it. A walking bunker that can lend cover saves when its time. A bunker that can smash enemies that come too close in assault as well; though I usually get rid of its powerfist as I always upgrade to the missile launcher.

So my use:

Walking size 3 terrain that fires a missile and assault cannon if in range. Twice the price of a rhino, but its scoring at least if it survives.

(Really though, I just don't have a high opinion of Dreadnoughts unless massed...)

Cheers!

I have to admit, I would pick a CC dread over a shooty one, My reason being it suits my preferred style of play for TT.

find dreads more of a use in CC bashing the cack outta stuff and tying up units.

The strength and the amount of the attacks is good but it can also become frustrating as you can only use the assault cannon out of combat.

I doubt it because they have the loyalty to look after them, and if they do they can talk to the techmarine....

In my experience as a player, the pure CC dreds do almost nothing but attract fire. Then it dies.

The fire support dreds... those are the scary ones. Like a Warfish, but able to HURT things. They really dish it out! One of them, hanging back with missiles, autocannons, and lascannons... well, that hurts.
