Default Cursed Founding...

Are the Cursed Founding chapters always screwed up? I might want to incorperate some of it in my army's fluff... this is assuming that most Cursed Chapters are the result of an attempt to curb the Blood Angel/Space Wolf gene-seed...

Cursed founding chapters are well... cursed. Some have mutated gene seed, others seem preternaturally unlucky. It varies from chapter to chapter but all of them have a problem in some way. A rather big and nasty problem too but not always gene variance.

I see, well I was going to put in my chapter fulff that they combined the Salamanders' Gene-Seed with the Space Wolf Gene-Seed, but somewhere I heard that people don't like it when fluff writers mess with the SW or BA Gene-Seed... You see, in the Codex, it says the Salamanders have Cleanse and Purify, which is one of my army's traits, and they liek to use Thunder Hammers, much like me. Space Wolves come in with my other trait which gives me True Grit, much like Space Wolves and I prefer an infantry based army, much like Space Wolves... Now I definately don't want them to be a Cursed Founding Chapter, although I do lose a lot... :P

Well the Salamanders are very central about the smithing arts. The Salamanders chapter has a far higher than average number of artificer armor, master crafted weapons, terminator armor and other rare forms of technology hard to produce in other chapters, including thunder hammers. Where as the Space Wolves have their very own flavor of character that I need not explain.

However using the gene stock of the Blood Angels and Space Wolves is deffinetly not frowned on as the basis of a new chapter. Go right ahead. Its your army, do what you want with it, it should not matter what others think.

I'm working on a similar idea. My chapter is kinda rogue. An inquisitor stole a gene seed transport ship and is playing with all his options. The only problem with your idea is Space Wolves supposedly do no send their gene seed to wherever (i forget). So where you would aquire the gene seed is up to you. Could say you were fighting a Space Wolf force and were so depleted after the fight that you canibalized their gene seed as well as yours making a hybrid type scheme? *shrugs*

Well the fluff I remember said the Space Wolves resisted sending their Gene Seed but would send tithes every now and then and there might be some in storage by the mechanicus. In chryo storage ya know. The mechanicus probably keeps some of the original gene seed of each of the 9 loyalist legions for reference.

Yes it is frowned on if you want your DIY's to fit the background. Using wolf gene seed is like having an Imperial Guard regiment that is actually Star Fleet marines that took a turn at the wrong worm hole. You can do it but don't expect people to accept it as a valid part of the 40k universe. Most of the fun of DIY is making something that fits in to the 40k universe, if you don't follow that constraint then it stops being the 40k universe (and starts being Rifts or other metaverse type games).

I havent seen much frowning on of using space wolf gene seed. Around here its done fairly often to make "counts as" Space Wolf armies. It does not have the greatest fluff adherence but then again its a game first and foremost. If someone wants to play red Space Wolves by another name who cares. With marine gene seed you never know, how many corpses are never recovered? How much gene seed is lost? No chapter has a 100% recovery rate.

If you want a simple way to justify it in the fluff say a kill team of Space Wolves were protecting a high ranking tech priest as he went to try and disable say a chaos Titan before its activated or try and disrupt some Necron tech. The Space Wolves all died but the tech priest lived, before escaping he stopped to recover the gene seed from the bodies having witnessed Space Wolf apothicaries doing it on the field as they fought their way to the kill team insertion point.

A bit far fetched but no more so than any of scores of fluff related ideas Ive seen.

The dying marine gasped out his final words, "Did...did I..."
Seeming to understand, the techmarine kneeling behind him allayed his fears, "Yes Brother; you're a hero. I have returned to you now to collect from you the chapter's dues, you shall live on forevermore." The crippled marine nodded and smiled, taking comfort in the fact that he had dedicated his life to the Emperor and even in death could continue to serve his chapter. "However...I do not have a reductor; all I have is my servo arm. You may feel a small pinch." The marine's smile vanished in a flash as the giant mechanical claw lurched clumsily towards his throat, "Say ahhhhh."
"ARRRGGGGGH!"
