Default Scout armour

I was at my local GW today and had a game against this guy using a scout army but he said that his commander had scout armour I checked my Space Marine codex and I found no evidence that it existed. He said it was 20pts for scout armour and his commander had infiltrate and move through cover. Does anyone know if this is right ???

No such thing. The Move through cover I think he has as standard, as I think all IC's have it, and he can get infiltrate through a squad he is bought with, but there is no such thing as scout armour. Ask him to show you his codex.

On a side note, what save did his character have/use?

In the back of the Chapter Approved 2003 codex someone had written in a letter detailing scout armor for characters in a marine list. It cost 20 pts and counted like basic scout armor. Problem is that it was A. sent in by an outside source so Games Workshop never got to test it for actual play ability and balance. And B. it was never official, so your opponent needed your permission to use it.

Basically he should have asked if he could take his commander in scout armor. Personally I don't think it unbalances the battle that much, but it could have for you. Next time you see him, just ask him to show you the source of the armor. Then explain to him that you know its not in the marine codex and that he was required to ask you if he could play it.

Then ask him if he wants another game, so you can show him why that was a bad choice to take for his army >.

At the end of the day, the points cost, and the fact he has now only got carapace armour save, most likely balances out the additional skills. I would have no problem with it, as it means he is easier to kill!

In fact for the reduced surviablity, I'd almost say that the upgrade cost should be 0.

Indeed you would normally pay 20pts for artificer armor which increases your save, why would you pay the same amount for worse armor...

I suppose that armor gives the commander the infiltrate and move through cover special rules.

actually, only the infiltrate bit.

GW should do a scout option though, even if its for fluffy sake. A combat patrol scout army is rather tempting

(MUST stick with eldar though! I MUST!)

If you want to make a scout-themed marine force, it's quite possible to do it within the bounds of the standard codex. Just put your commander in an infiltrating command squad, and state that they all have 'artificer scout armour'. It's not unreasonable that well-made scout armour could provide improved protection (equivalent to power armour), just as well-made (ie, artificer) power armour is comparable to terminator armour.

You could even just say they are wearing power armor. Such veterans that have been scouting around for so long would certainly know how to go about being stealthy even in power armor. Quite a bit of the Space Wolf fluff Ive read shows them being stealthy in power armor.

Yep, Scout "artificer" armour = Power armour.
