Default So Darn Many Ultramarines

Well remembering the fluff Ive read about the Tyranid invasion of Macragge and the Ultramarines battle against them I got to remembering how the Ultramarines have a much larger fleet than they should have, much larger even. That they also had far more marines than they should have aswell. Much larger than the 1000 max that the codex details. That got me to wondering, with only 10 companies, how did they manage to conceal that many marines?

Are there perhaps more marines per company? Or perhaps there are more than 10 companies and maybe their unnoficial? Or perhaps scout companies. Or perhaps might it be that theres more than one of each company, like two 2nd companies?

Just some ideas, I think the scout companies might be the answer but Im not sure. Anyone know more about this or have their own speculations?

It is rather ironic that a chapter who adheres so closely to the codex, whos even famous for it and whos primarch created it... ignores such an important rule of the codex...

Do you have any evidence to back up this claim? The Ultramarines adhere to the Codex Astartes in every way.

Yeah, I think it just seems like there's more than a thousand of them because there's so much focus on them.

The Black Templars aren't playing by the rules though. Perhaps it's time someone tipped off the Inquisition?

Only problem is that the Templars bathe in the enemies blood each night in a million different places. They rarely see each other and only care about the death of the Xenos. Not too much of a worry...

They did. in the GW website, I believe that there was a scenerio with WH verses Black Templars. but I don't want to get off subject.

The Ultramarines are just really popular to use and to make sub-chapters and second foundings!

Sadly I dont have proof, its just what Ive heard, and probably read, about the first Tyranic War. Ill have to see about finding a source, Ive heard the same thing from many people at the local hobby shops and even in discussions on the net. There has to be a source for it somewhere...

Although that begs two more questions. If the Black Templars are so divided and split over the galaxy in such independant groups, how do they retain any cohesion as a chapter? Secondly I remember the Space Wolves were supposed to have a bit more marines than they technically should have. Again I cant remember where I read it but can anyone verify that?

Just started getting back into the marine fluff and Im a bit rusty, should go take a look at some of the books I havent read in a while...
