Default Razorback or Rhino

Let me know what you guys think.

Well, first off I think you should put a bit more in here like your own thoughts or why your posting this poll. You should also use proper grammar at all times. Edited this one for your convience but please do so yourself in future. -S

the rhino. it costs less, carries more troops, and doesn't make you decide if you want to move it to get your guys where they need to be or stay slow so it can fire. If I want a tank, then I'll take a predator or vindicator.

Yep, we had this debate not long ago...find it here.

[hr]

The Razorback fails as an IFV because it seldom lasts long enough to support its passengers after rushing forwards to deploy them.

It fails as a transport because it has neither the capacity or the speed of a Rhino (if you want to make use of its twin-linked weapon on the way in).

It fails as a battle tank because it has polystyrene armour.

[hr]

In conclusion, I think Razorbacks are best deployed en masse, seperate from the troops, serving as mobile heavy weapons and taking some of the heat off your other vehicles. But even then, because of their innate vulnerability, I think those are points better spent elsewhere. Some opponents will prioritize them higher than true battle tanks because they sport twin linked weapons and are far easier to kill at range than their more heavily armoured siblings.

The problem with this poll is that the Rhino and Razorback are almost as dissimilar in their use as a Rhino and a Drop Pod! I don't think they can be reasonably compared to one another simply as transport options because their battlefield roles differ so.

Accually this is easily solved. Just unload your guys then take it slow...too many people forget about thier transports after disembarking...

EDIT: Oh, I say rhino with HK missile and extra armor...It won't last long, but niether will the razorback so what the heck.

I think the rhino is better overall as the transport, but I think the Razorback doesn't add enough extra firepower to make up for losing the transport space for 4 marines. (Which is 60 pts) I think there should be a better weapon choice for it, like a single autocannon, or it should have a storm bolter also for the same price. (A 70 pt Razorback should have a storm bolter and a twin-linked heavy bolter) That's my opinion however...

Alright, which one do I like the best? Short and simply, the rhino, why?

Rhino:

+Cheaper
+More troop capacity
-Worse weapons

Razorback:

+Better weapons
-More expensive
-Less troop capacity

Alright, what does the razorback have over the rhino? Guns. While it does offer a lot of power it is pretty poorly armoured and thus it is easily shot down, and when this happens you are out of a lot more points then if the rhino was capped. Also, what is the role of the two? Transporting troops. It is not an anti-tank/heavy infantry death machine, and this is what it tries to become. It does not have the inside capacity to get a decent squad to its destination. For transporting troops, (what you use it for as it is in the troop transport section), the rhino is best, gives you a lot of troop space and some good all around mobility for a nice price, what more can you ask for?

Although, personally, I like Rhinos, they aren't really practical in actual game conditions, as both Rhinos and Razorbacks have paperthin armor and tend to be firemagnets at times. So I say niether, take drop pods.

except that you can't charge the turn you drop pod.... oh wait, dang.

actually I prefer the rhino over drop podding for one reason. the drop pod is too random. your unit of guys might not arrive until turn 4, in which case it might be too late for them. If your worried about the rhino being blown up just remember: 1. the unit that the rhino is attached to does not have to start the game inside it (good for when your opponent gets the first turn, learned this one the hard way...) and 2. if you use cover judiciously you might be able to get them pretty far before it gets popped. Personally I don't really think of rhinos as a threat any more, so I haven't bothered with blowing one up in a long time. just easier to surround it and force the unit inside to try to escape. that kills the occupants, then you can just let the rhino be (note not a good idea for point games)
