Default Question about termies...

If you had a Librarian, or a Chaplain, or a Captain as a single fighter with no command squad, could you still have him in terminator armor? without a terminator command squad?

Of course. Terminator Armour is a piece of wargear that all of those HQ choices can take. The Terminator Command Squad is optional.

I wouldn't recommend it though, especially with a Chaplain (the manner in which he augments any squad he is attached to is invaluable). Librarians and Commanders tend to be very powerful units and if you're going to buy expensive wargear for them such as Terminator armour, it'd be a real shame if they were to get insta-killed by a battle cannon because they've got no squad members to bear the brunt.

ok, because I was thinking about getting a Termie Librarian as a second HQ. Later in life though!

If you've just started collecting and/or only play small games then a Libby in Terminator armour is ok. It'll help keep him alive if he's all on his own (as may be the case in a small game) because just as you cannot afford an expensive Termie command squad to accompany him, your opponant probably won't be able to afford a lot of weapons capable of insta-kill. You can always attach him to a power armoured squad during the course of a game if you find yourself facing a wall of Lascannons or something..

And don't forget, as an independent character, he could only be shot at if he's the closest unit to the enemy, as per the "Shooting at Characters" rules on page 51 in the Macragge booklet. It's a nice little protection if you have your HQ all by his lonesome.

Better powergaming test? Ok:
1. Do you intend to win even if it might take the fun of the game away from either yourself or your opponent?

If you answered yes to question 1, you are in fact a power gamer, and your list is probably either beardy or you can abuse the rules to make it such.

right, I will keep that in mind. Once I get my scout squad, then I will get either my dev scuad, or a termie librarian!

I say go for the Dev. Squad first over the Libby. I know Libbys are great, but Dev. Squads are better and have more bodies.

mwuhaha...bodies. > But don't forget, I am fighting tyranid armies! a dev squad is nice...but a unit that can withstand a hord, or can pick a fight with a Fex, would be pretty useful. Even if all the bolter fire from a fully loaded dev. squad could mulch a swarm!
