Default all scout army - can it work?

I always wanted to make up a scout army that was fast and effective. I could take some traits and dev squads or use Dreadnaughts but I want the army to have a real scout feel to it. I'm even considering modifying cadians for all my scout squads and ork warbuggies for my attack bikes ( maybe a hummer type look ). I want that WW11 Not sure yet about the fluff or paint scheme but I'm open to suggestions. I just finishing painting up my apothcary list ( thanks Tom for the help) and now want a second marine army that has a twist - so does a list like this stand any chance against Nids, Tau, Necrons, Eldar?

I thought about using a libby but now will
ise a chappy. He can hook up w/ the attack bikes or
help one of the scout squads if they are charged

TROOPS

Recon Pl Alpha (scouts) - 159pts
9x CC and pistol - 1 x Vet sgt w/ pistol and PF

Recon Pl Bravo(scouts) - 159pts
9x CC and pistol - 1 x Vet sgt w/ pistol and PF

Recon Pl Charlie(scouts) - 159pts
9x CC and pistol - 1 x Vet sgt w/ pistol and PF

these are assault troops - get them infiltrated in cover and counter
charge any advancing troops



Sniper Pl Delta (scouts) - 165pts
5 x snipers, 3 x bolters, 1 x hvy bolter - 1 x sgt/sniper

Sniper pl Echo (scouts) - 170pts
5x snipers, 3 x bolters, 1 x Missile Launcher - 1 x sgt/sniper

Sniper pl Foxtrot (scouts) - 170pts
5x snipers, 3 x bolters, 1 x Missile Launcher - 1 x sgt/sniper

i'm hoping these provide a nice firebase to
deal w/ tanks and troops



FAST ATTACK

3 x Attack Bike Squad Tango - Hvy bolter - 150 pts

or Vulture w/ Heavy Smart Bombs, Twin-Linked Lascannons and chaff/flare launchers - 250

3 x Attack Bike Squad Victor - Multi melta - 195 pts

take objectives, tank hunt, and bring down the numbers
in squads before they get too close to my scouts



Total - 1458 pts

Well, first things first, the commander is underpriced by 5 points, the recon platoons are both overpriced by 9 points, sniper platoons charlie and delta are overpriced by 10 points each and echo and foxtrot are underpriced by 1 point. That gives you 31 points to play with straight away.

Well, I'm not a fan of the idea of a chapter master taking to the field with the scouts for fluff reasons alone. He's not likely to go flying off on a high-risk mission with the scout company when there's an entire chapter to organise and an invasion he should really be a part of (in order to oversee it and inspire his chapter simply by being there).

I'm also opposed to the sergeant of foxtrot platoon...that combi-melta is a waste of points at the best of times, let alone in a long-range squad. The abundance of powerfists and multi-melta toting bikes should serve well as your AT capability. Failing that, have you considered air support? Its outrageously expensive both in terms of real money and points, but a Damocles directing a Vulture on strafing/bombing runs in support of the scouts is very fluffy.

Otherwise, it looks like a strong list. 60 marines on the ground is not to be trifled with!

I don't like the idea of a chapter Master leading a butt load of scouts, but thats fine. Overall he's great, i'm intersted in how your going to model the lighting claws on the bike. Note a Libby or Chappy will help you if you decide to swiucth them out. Libbys poweres are great, and a chaplian on a bike can rip it up.

These are nice squads that will work well. Its great that almost all of your army can infiltrate, so no need for those pesky rhinos!

Interesting combo with the Bolters and Snipers, but what does the Sgt. have? I only have problems with the Heavy Bolter, I think a Missle Luncher will help you more.

These squads I do not like. The mixing of CCWs, Bolters, and a Heavy Weapon doesn't make sence. I reccomend going all CCW and Bolt Pistol on all of them, and mabe giving the Sgt. a Power Weapon.

FAST ATTACK

I reccomend taking these in normal bike squads, not by thier loneseme. 3x Normal bikes and 1x attack bike will be more helpfull.


Total - 1497 pts
Overall your list is solid, and all those scouts will be intimidating.

edited - Tom how could I fit that vulture and damocles in there at 1500? I actualy have a Vulture somewhere. The Damocles woiuld be a command tank no? And are these tournament legal - I suspect I would need permission. And with the changs - what do i spend my 42 pts on?

I suspected the vulture was iffy but I'll slip it in for friendly since I own it anyway.

Excellant, well if you are willing to consider the use of a Vulture let's see if we can't make room for it?

Well I'm a little confused by your sniper squads now. They have two sergeants? I'm sure its an error; their cost seems to back that up.

Well, if you bin two scouts from every squad and your Heavy Bolter attack bike squadron, you'll have enough to field a Damocles and a Vulture with Heavy Smart Bombs, Twin-Linked Lascannons and chaff/flare launchers. Sound tempting? Strength 10 pie plates...re-rollable scatter dice. You know you want it... >

Its just a shame there is no HQ option for a Scout Captian to lead the force.

could I just substitute the chappie w/ the damocles for friendlies - that could be my HQ and then add the vulture for an attack bike squad? Would be fluffier anyway.
