How do you build drop pods? be damned is im going to pay what FW wants for them. Just wondering if anyone had a good meathod (and maybe a template or something).

I built mine out of PVC piping from the plumbing section at my local hardware shop for pennies.

I got mine from the CNC workshop on someone's recommendation on this board (sorry...I don't remember who it was :-[). They're dead cheap and pretty easy to assemble but they're made of wood, so you'll have to use a bit of sandpaper to get rid of the burring. They're certainly not Forge World standard in terms of detail, but at least the parts fit together!

Mal, tom those are real nice. To have legal drop pods don't they have to at least have 50% GW parts? If so, those Drop pods are only good for friendly games.

Oddly enough haven't had any problems so far. Considering it's scratch, and not produced by a "company" so to speak. Some people proclaim that since FW produces one that it's the only thing to have, but most organizers I've met locally didn't enforce FW because they (1) weren't GW employees and (2) understand that money doesn't grow on trees when it comes to Pods.

Yeah, but I don't fancy asking my opponent if I can use things in my army. I make my game club ask their opponent if it is okay to use proxies. It goes a bit like this:

Johnathan(black templar n00b(good guy, but dumb as hell sometimes)): I made these new dp's last night!

Me: Cool! Wait, you made them?

John: Yeah

Me: with what?

john: cardboard

me: ...

john: what?

me: LOL, ROTL


Now, you might be like, what? Well, he hates proxies. And made a huge ass out of himself about how he's not letting anyone play even the smallest proxy against him. And he uses proxies.

me: Um, all units in your codex have to be at least 50% GW parts.

john: the terrain isn't, GW has cardboard terrain all the time!

me: Yeah, terrain, not cardboard armies.

john: ...

...

john: WAIT, ITS 2 HARD 2 buy Drop poddzzzz!!!!!111!!!! Teh cost 2 mush!!!!!!!

me: *sigh*(I get along with everyone else in my gaming club except for him) Whether or not you think you can make a drop pod with 50% GW parts is irrelevant. You either ask your opponent if you can use it, or you leave it out.

me: Okay man, not trying to be a a$$hole, Its just that people can get uncomfortable playing against proxies. If they want to play against them, that's fine. Some people don't want to get surprised when that guardsmen is all of a sudden a Daemon prince. In a 500pt game.Seriously, I don't care, its just there if things get out of hand when it comes to proxies. I want everyone to have a good time, that's all.

He's the same guy who got pissed off when I wouldn't let someone use three hammerheads against new players in a 750pt game. He thought I was too scared.

He's never won a game of 40k. Ever.


And thats what I have to say about Drop pods. ;D
