Default 6 HQs

How on Earth can Space Marines have 6 Hqs it seems a bit unfair to me because if a Space Marine can have a commander he can have a command squad. Ok that is fine to me BUT a Chaplin and a Librarian can Join that squad that is 3 HQ choices in one HQ. Oh you can have another one of them as well it is so unfair!!

It was a little confusing reading your post, but I had a general idea of what you were talking about before I read it so I got the point. Yes this is correct that you can have 6 HQ with marines. I have asked my store manager and he says that this is true. Although it may be true it would also be incredibly expensive points wise and not a good choice. I personally think that it was a fluke in the wording that some people took advantage of but I could be wrong. How it is posible is that The command squads count as a single HQ choice and it says that it canhave one of each commander attached to it. Take two of these squads and you get six commanders. While I would agree with you that this is unfair, either the wording was poorly chosen or it was play tested and was found to be ok. I would have to say though that there are more unfair things out there.

Because the absolute bare minimum that the squad can cost is 320 points a piece. That's just the cheapest HQs, minimized command squad, basic gear, and in the case of the three HQs, no guns or even weapons for the commander.

If they were actually given gear, the squad would cost 400 at least. Two squads would cost over 800. For 16 troops, 800 points is a waste. In fact, it comes out to 50 points a model.

If that's not a point sink, I don't know what is.

Better powergaming test? Ok:
1. Do you intend to win even if it might take the fun of the game away from either yourself or your opponent?

If you answered yes to question 1, you are in fact a power gamer, and your list is probably either beardy or you can abuse the rules to make it such.

I doubt that any 3 HQ command squad would survive long enough to earn back their considerable points cost. IMHO the actual reason they can have them is because of hidiously poor wording in the codex that is now viewed as acceptible, or they were play tested to death and it was found that they are such a points sink that you loose most games in which you take them.
