Default Advice needed, please!

I am starting a marine army, and this will be my second. My first was my tau, but when I began I had a very misguided Dark Angels army that, while around 750-1000 pts, went no-where. Now it is collecting dust at the back of my closet, and as I start my chapter, I am at a quandry abuot what to do with it. My thoughts are to..

1. Give away it all except for a few unpainted models, either to a young nextdoor neighbor who saw me painting one day and was interested inn the figures, or to a friend who might start.

2. Paint over the models. I am skepticle becase I have no idea how the pain will look n he second (or third) time around. Also, a large chunk of these guyys were found on ebay, and are painted to a very high level.

3. Ebay! (though, might be too much hassle).

I might keep some and give some, but with thecost of models and the variable of painting, I thought I would ask the experts ('other' feel free to respond too!) ;D

Before you give you marines away to the kid next door or your friend, ask youself; how old is the kid (next door)? will he understand how to play? what will he do with the models once he has stopped playing? If you were to give the models to the either and they don't like it, ask for the models back. This ^ would be my last option (except ebay, that's truly last for everyone, and if they say different, they are lying).

Personally, I would paint over them after applying some paint thinner and first removing the undercoat so as to start with a clean slate, and if you're really adamant about keeping the exceptionally painted ones, then keep them that way, maybe you could find something on them that you could turn into a scheme of your own.

Get a big bottle of Engine Degreaser, and soak the models in there for about 24 hours. It doesn't damage plastic, and will strip the paint off of metals as well.

Get yourself a fingernail brush to scrub the paint out of the crevesis, and you're good to go.

If you've got a collection of marines, and you're going to do marines, then there's no reason to not recycle the older models into the new army. Saves you money, and that's a good thing.

You can also use pinesol( diluted normaly). Let metal or plastic models soak for a day or so and clean with an old toothbrush, then paint them again and use them in your new army. I have done this with figures and vehicles it works very well.

Everyone's got their own little 'trick of the trade' for paint stripping, but bear in mind that there are sovents out there that are designed for this very purpose (eg. Modelstrip). People might tell you "But that costs money"...but so does Engine Degreaser and what have you. You might have some brake fluid in the garage, but what happens when you need to top up your brake fluid? You'll have to buy more. I always use the professional stuff these days. It does the job to a better standard than any 'cheap alternative' and it only costs a couple quid more. That's less than half an hours wages and it'll save you time and effort.
