Blood Angels are all out assualt monsters (though there are issues with the codex needing an update).

Space Wolves strike me as good assault but with more range support than Blood Angels. Black Templars too.

Or you can use the traits system to build your own chapter with an assault focus.

Blood Angels or Black Templars are probably your best bet. Blood Angels are better for an initial charge, but Black Templars stick around longer once they're in melee.

Despite popular belief, Space Wolves will often work better using firepower followed by a counter-assault against dedicated assault armies. I want as few Orks to reach me as possible so 40 Blood Claw attacks is enough to get rid of them... They work well as an assault force versus shhoty Marine armies and Tau. Obviously, you don't want to wait for the Tau to come to you!

Yes you do! You know you want to... why don't you try it some time? >

Probably the best trait to use is the CCW & Bolt pistol skill, prehaps combined with anoth if you want to go that devient (as most preople seem to... including me)

Space Wolves always gave me the impression of a force that's shooty.. until it hits charge range. Their two main troop choices are charge-centric, and their equivelent to heavy weapons in tactical squads are power fists and power weapons. I like them a lot.

Blood Angels and Black Templars are the best official combat Marine chapters, however the traits are ueful for making a combat force. My Marines have "Take the Fight to Them" and "Cleanse and Purify" to allow them to have bolt pistol + cc weapon and 2 assault weapons per squad.

I have a chapter with the same traits as Scout Sergeant Mkoll.

But really, most Codex chapters are good at this- tactical and dev squads (and tanks) for ranged support; command squads, vet squads and assault squads for close combat.

OK. So my friend (the one who posted this topic) decided he wanted either the space wolves or the black Templar. What are the general advantages and disadvantages of these two armies? Thanks for all the help.

CC with ranged support suonds like trait trust your brothers. Counter charge and true grit puts a bolter in everyones hand and gives you an edge in cc.
