Default Legion of the Damned (2K Drop Pod)

So I was thinking to myself: "Self, what would be a good way to represent the Legion showing up out of nowhere? Their rules suggest deepstriking..."

Why not Drop Pods?

Legion of the Damned

Traits: Cleanse and Purify, Trust Your Battle Brother
Drawbacks: Aspire to Glory, Death Before Dishonor

HQ

Sgt Centurious: Chaplain, Bolt Pistol, Frag Gernades - 87

Brother Mortus: Codicier Librarian, Fear of Darkness, Combat Shield, Bolt Pistol - 116

Legion Command Sqaud: 8 strong w/bolters, Vet Sgtw/Power Fist, Plasma Gun, Plasma Gun, Trust Battle Brother, Drop Pod - 230

TROOP

Legion Tac Sqaud: 10 Strong, Vet Sgt w/Power Fist, Plasma Gun, Plasma Gun, Trust Battle Brother, Drop Pod - 265

Legion Tac Sqaud: 10 Strong, Vet Sgt w/Power Fist, Plasma Gun, Plasma Gun, Trust Battle Brother, Drop Pod - 265

Legion Tac Sqaud: 10 Strong, Vet Sgt w/Power Fist, Melta Gun, Melta Gun, Trust Battle Brother, Drop Pod - 265

Legion Tac Sqaud: 10 Strong, Vet Sgt w/Power Fist, Melta Gun, Melta Gun, Trust Battle Brother, Drop Pod - 265

Legion Tac Sqaud: 10 Strong, Vet Sgt w/Power Weapon, Flamer, Flamer, Trust Battle Brother, Drop Pod - 251

Legion Tac Sqaud: 10 Strong, Vet Sgt w/Power Weapon, Flamer, Flamer, Trust Battle Brother, Drop Pod - 251

TOTAL: 1995

It seems a bit cookie cutter to me, but I think having all those marines is in Legion theme. I was planning on using something like this, but perhaps not so tall.

Since you're not sure how units will show up due to drop podding, duplication seemed like a good idea. I could drop two tac squads for a Dev squad and Dreadnaught...

And before anyone complainsa about the Librarian and Fear of the Darkness, I'd like to point out that was a Cursed Founding psychic power before it made it's way into Codex: Space Marines.

Thoughts and Opinions?

I fell asleep after the second Tactical Squad. Please man, variate! The Legion do have Heavy Weapons you know... and Dreadnoughts.

Cool idea! and good luck fighting anyone with that list. I would be terrified if I faced an all deep striking force.

wow, I know that I complain when people min/max (one of my personal pet peeves) but to see someone go to the exact opposite spectrum is so cool!!!

I would love to hear how this army does, I would just be careful with it and certain armies (like nids).

good luck!

I thought LotD were organised diffrently... as in no squads or leaders just a tide of marines?

Or is that an old rule long since discarded?

Well, I have to say, this is definitely a tourney army. I certainly wouldn't run it or play against it in a normal game, that's for sure. It would get boring five minutes into the game. :P

Looking at it as a tourney army, the only changes I'd make would be in the Command squad, as it's obviously tooled up for close combat, but you gave it a pair of rapid fire plasma guns. I'd switch it around some to either give it meltaguns, which will allow you to shoot and charge in, or get some specialists such as a champion to get more of a benefit from the Chaplin.

Better powergaming test? Ok:
1. Do you intend to win even if it might take the fun of the game away from either yourself or your opponent?

If you answered yes to question 1, you are in fact a power gamer, and your list is probably either beardy or you can abuse the rules to make it such.

I have to agree dude, you're list is pretty boring, but it really depends on you're style of play, I certainly like some variation in my lists. Why not drop a few tactical squads in favour of some terminators or a dreadnaught or two? Hell you could beef up your command squad a little, with an apothecary and standard bearer. It would just make your list a little more fun to play with, and I'm sure you will be tired of painting 80 space marines EXACTLY the same, over and over again... imagine that.

Thanks for your comments all. Yeah, it's not the most "wow" army out there, and I may change it up a bit to have some variety.

But I like lots of troops, and having 70 Marines showing up wherever is not only fun, but very legionish.

I think I may switch out the Command squad to Meltaguns, to give a bit more anti-tank.

darthgus: You're right, WAY back in the day it was just infantry. Now they're pretty much like regular chapters, unless you use the Chapter Approved, then they're very limited.

How's that different than any other Space marine force?

Thanks again for the responses all.

I play a very similair list to this that gets me a massacre versus my opponents a solid majority of the time. Is it boring? Depends on your definition of boring. While having nothing but basic rines may not make for variety, I never get tired of imagining my marines dropping down from the heavens guns blazing right into the enemy, and its always a thrill because you have to plan around when each pod comes into play.
