Default honour guard

another thread on this this board has got me thinking. are honour guard useful in a competitive list? i play ultamarines and i love thier models already.

has anyone ever used them or can anyone give me some thoughts on how to use them?

competitively they're not that great. in fact I can guarantee at least one or two people will claim that they are never worth taking.

it's only in a fluff list that they come to their own. the only reason you might reasonably think of taking them in a competitive list is so that you can have multiple characters (like a librarian, his command squad and a librarian attached) and even then there will be a lot of arguing that thats a point sink.

I can see the values of including them in a tac squad, having a vet sgt with fist and an HG with power weapon could be nasty

I think they work great in tac squads, i just wish i could do it with guard (as in sergeant and corporal) I find that having one guy who can manage well in cc isnt enough, and if it werent for the fact that i object to ultramarines id use them
