I have a small confession to make...
I've never played a normal Codex Marine army. When I first started playing 40k I had to choose between two different armies, either the mysterious and noble Dark Angels, whose fluff and models I absolutely adored or the swift and savage White Scars, who at that time had rules in an Index Asartes article. I finally chose the White Scars because I really like their rules. I didn't regret my decision and after some time using my White Scars I became an Eldar Player. When I grew weary of treading the path of the Eldar I dusted off my old marine army and totally overhauled it into a Space Wolves force. Then I stopped really playing 40k for a while. This summer I decided to start a new army and have happily been working on my Tau since then. However all this time I've been playing I've always really wanted to play Dark Angels, they remain to this day one of my all time favorite Space Marine chapters at their similar enough to a Codex Chapter to not really be that different (at least in their current incarnation). Now with rumours of Codex: Dark Angels looming on the horizon I've been quite excited. I'm very seriously considering starting an army of these guys. But once again something has come up that is tempting me away from Dark angels: Imperial Fists. This is another of the Loyal first founding chapters and there's nothing I don't like about these guys. Awesome history and fluff, cool characters and a striking and unmistakable colour scheme. All that in addition to a total unwillingness to ever retreat one step and an unhealthy predilection for blowing stuff up... Anyways, I was just wondering if anyone would be kind enough to offer me some advice on which army would be more fun/cool/interesting to start collecting at some point in the next few months. Thanks

I would say keep with the Tau till the new Dark Angels dex comes out and then start a DA force. From the sound of it you've wanted to start DA for a long time so why not just do it. They have some unique rules that the Imperial Fists dont plus when the new dex comes out there should be some cool new models and rules to work with.

do you have any DA left over?
as they were your first love, I'm sure you'll get bitten by the DA bug when the codex comes out. I'd say go with them, but maybe start painting some stuff up when you've done with your Tau, that way you're all set for when the codex comes out.

I've never played Dark Angels or painted a single Dark Angel mini*. It's their story that I really like.
*Actually my very first Force Commander was converted from Cypher.

you never painted one DA in all that time? wow.
I don't know then, think which chapter you'd rather paint, which story you like best, and which fighting style you'd prefer (not that they're much different)

Keep collecting the main troops and stay away from commanders and special characters until the codex comes out. DA are a great chapter, one of my best friends played them and i read up on them and they are really good if you want good fluff to go along with it.
