Default The Most Foolish Squad I've Ever Loved.

Have you ever made a unit that is so over tooled and ridiculous that it became a total liability... and then proceeded to use it time and time again? Mine is my command squad, and it's the dumbest things I've ever fielded, hands down. Yet, i can't seem to help myself, so i thought I'd get a little feedback from the forum.

The Lost Tribe is my Jewish space marine chapter. They are 100% codex legal, and 100% infantry. My Reclusiam command squad consists of 5 models.

Rabbi (Chaplain) w/ jump pack, plasma pistol, artificer armor, Term. Honors
Sergeant w/ jump pack, plasma pistol, power weapon artificer armor, Term. Honors
Champion w/ jump pack, plasma pistol, power weapon, artificer armor, Term. Honors, combat shield
Standard bearer w/ jump pack, plasma pistol, power weapon artificer armor, Term. Honors
Apothecary w/ jump pack, plasma pistol, power weapon artificer armor, Term. Honors

Their veteran ability is infiltrate, and depending on points they also carry melta bombs and the Rabbi may wear an adamantium mantle (so he can take instant death hits on his 4+ invulnerable save, and let the apothecary heal him if he fails... trust me, it's legal.)

Fully kitted out, this unit can cost about 600 points for 5 men, and it totally gets hosed all the time. i typically lose a model a turn, even to bolter fire or guardsmen in CC, but i had so much fun thinking it up and making the unit that i feel like i have to use them.

So, let's share. Anyone else as foolish as me?

I'm notorious where I play for high cost characters and units. Not to that extent, mind you, but still past the realm of logic. That's why I guard myself with two words, a crucifix against point centric players, "Themed Army."

except for the fact that you need a veteran sgt and at least four marines in the command squad, as well as the IC. so you're one marine short, and therefore it's an illegal squad.

I've fielded some seriously Kit out Wolf Guard squads before. Can't remember the exact layout of any one particular squad but no matter how you do it Wolf Guard come out expensive and tooled up.

However should they some how

a) survive to make it into combat
b) aren't fighting genestealers

They should do pretty well for themselves.

Until recently i was a guard player, so i couldnt actually kit a squad out to be more than about 150 points (even with lots of doctrines, trust me ive tried)

Ive kinda carried this over to SMs. I take as little as possible so i can have a big army (although im still proxying at the moment), and i take plasma in almost all squads. I take veteran sergeants with power weapons, which are quite expensive, and thats about it.

I suppose the devestator squads with 4 plasma cannons are quite expensive

Incorrect, actually. You need a total of 4 marines in a command squad, plus IC. The sgt doesn't even need to be a vet. But since the sgt is a vet, and the specialists have been given term. honors, they can choose wargear.

600 points for this Hah. Chaos can do so much better.

Chaos Lt w/bike,lighting claw,feelnopain,deamonic armor,mok
4xchosen w/bike,lighting claw,feelnopain,deamonic armor,mok

all have 2+ save and can have 2+ invulnerable save when boosting.
When hit with anything besides a powerwep or a instant kill weapon they get a 4+ invulnerable save that can be rolled in adition to other saves.

25 lightning claw attacks(not on the charge)

under 600 points

No, you have to have 5 blokes in a no-ermie Command Squad...

My extravagance is the Land Raider Woden (I named all my main tanks with Norse-type names) in games as small as 1K. I may have used it in 750 once or twice...

From the (power armour) command squad entry:

Quote:
Number/squad: Sergeant and 4-9 Space Marines.
That's 1 sergeant plus 4 marines; 1+4=5.

Oh my god... you're right. I'm so ashamed. Well, i guess it's opponents permission for me from now on.

I don't have my codex with me, but i just checked in 3rd edition, and even then it's sgt and 4-9 marines. I triple checked everything else, and i thought i was just sooooo clever.

Oh well, there goes 60 bucks. Still, it was a wild thing to see in action, let me assure you. That first turn charge sure maked people wince. Emperor rest their souls.
