Default Jump packs- how do they work?

Every time i see a jump jet marine, I always wonder how do they fly without pressing any buttons or similiar machinery to fly?

Voice command would be my guess, I can think of a few times in the short story novels where a marine "spoke" to his suit issueing comands verbally.

don't forget that marines are linked into their armour via their black carapace too.

well, since the space marine's powersuit is operated by direct connection to his nervous system through the Black Carapace implant, I see no reason why a jetpack cant be just a thought away from liftoff.

That was my guess as well. Since the Armour already has ties to the marine through his black carapice, how much harder is it to tie in the commands for jump packs? It'd also give them much more control than voice or hand commands and would allow them to have thier hands free and keep in constant communication with each other.

Ive read in a few black library novels mentions of assault marines thumbing activators for their packs. Of course black library isnt always that accurate.... ok thats probably an understatement.

Im not too sure about tying it in with the nervous system. Its something extra that would be rather unusual. The marine has a real hand, extending it into the armour isnt that unusual. The marine doesnt have jets, suddenly adding a whole nervous input might have some bad side effects. I would think that instead of a seperate control for the pack if they did do it by a thought or something that the pack controls would be tied in with specific motions. Like when the marine jumps a certain way the pack flares and burns as long as the marine keeps a certain joint held in the right spot then when moved the pack burns lower to the ground then another bounce, etc. Thats just my guess though.

I'd also go for either hidden manual controls or motion-activated as then the Seraphim could use the same control system.

I always figured jump packs worked like I understood Techmarine harnesses - Interpreting not so much nervous signals, but certain "learned" movements, gestures, and actions. This also seems in line with each armor having it's own machine spirit. To a Marine who understands no different, he believes the machine spirit animates the external systems, or in this case, the jump pack.

The SM armour has a machine spirit? Well that sounds plausible but isn't a SM armour too small to put a machine spirit in it?

Could be talking about the main machine spirit god thingie but I didnt think most marines were very pious in that regard.
