Im gonna start a space marine army after my tau force reaches 1500 pts, simply because I dont like just shooting. Space marines give me something to remember tau by, shooting, and are pretty good at close combat. So I want to know which chapter to start off with. Black templar are very appealing, but I just dont know. Also if Im forgetting anything, please report to a mod to get it added to the list. Thanks.

If you want combat, go Templar.

You forgot a few:

Ultramarines
Space Wolves
Imperial Fists
Ravenguard
Salamanders

To name a few of the notable chapters. Do the Iron Hands have any official "special rules"? I don't recall.

Also- don't froget DIY chapters. Fluffy, fun and creative.

Iron Hands only have traits with 4th ed. codex.

well, you've named two "all-round" marine chapters, and two that are assault-oriented. so do you want an army that has a balance of shooting and assault, or an all-out close combat army?

I'd go Salamanders for their close-range raw firepower. I think their biggest problem though is transportation but that's another thread.

I just created my own based upon the traits section. I think that is best anyway, as most of the established chapters can limit you.

if you want a challenge try a chapter that limted support elements like dreds, terminators, and armored vehicles...

If you want to decapitate heads and goes berserk, go with blood angels.

If you want to decapitate heads and be a fanatic, go with black templars.

If you want to shoot and burn everything in close range, Salamanders is the force for you.

dark angels is the shooty SM army.

But personally I like;

1)Black templars: colouring scheme is cool.

2)salamanders: like their feel where they live among the people they recruit.

I want close combat, but I also want to be able to shoot well enough.

Then Salamanders might be the one for you. They have lots of flamers meaning up close and personal shooting and while there you may aswell slash some people up.

Black Templars are usually very assaulty but they can shoot well enough too.
