Default Space Wolf question

Hey, i was reading through the space wolf codex and i noticed that they are allowed to use leman russ exterminators. i found this a bit odd so i read in detail and noticed that they are BS 4, so they aren't driven by imperial guardsmen. but imperial armour describes leman russes as being very tight and cramped for humans, so how the heck would you get a space marine in there? stormtroopers are trained for cover ops, sabotage and other such special missions so they wouldn't be assign as drivers, so who drives these things?

I think that their Leman russ exterminators will be customized for them.

Yes, I agree w/ crisis Vyper. They would have to be custom to fit a huge space marine.

I'm guessing those are the standard Leman Russ's that have the Battle Cannon and all those heavy weapons. I'd say that the Battle Cannon equipment takes up most of the stuff in the tank, along with the forward Lascannon equipment. Also the Space Marines have more advanced equipment than standard Imperial Guard, so they might be able to refit the tank with better, smaller, equipment.

I have a hard time believing that an 11 foot tall space marine would be able to drive in a 5 foot tall tank, It would have to be customized.

Where did you get that they were eleven feet tall. Proof: A dreadnaught is maybe 15-20 ft tall, max, and a space marine has to fit in a cofin thingy in the front and the coffin is reletively small, so space marines are only like an average of 6-7 ft tall. Well, at least not in power armour, and where the heck did you hear that tanks are 5 ft tall, eldar gaurdians are bigger then that!

actually, i think in general, they're supposed to be around 8 feet tall...while average citizens are more like 6-7 feet tall...

still, it is an interesting question...

Marines are also much better multi-taskers than normal humans - a Russ with sponsons takes no less than six Guardsmen to use, whereas 3-4 Marines could do a better job.

Guard:
1 Driver
2 Sponson Gunners
1 Turret Opperator
1 Hull-Mount Firer
1 Engineer?

Marines:
1 Driver/Hull Mount Firer
1-2 Sponson Gunner(2)
1 Turret Opperator

Something along those lines, perhaps?

ACtually it would be closer to
Guard:
Commander
Driver
assistant driver (controls the hull lascannon/H-bolter)
main gunner
2 sponson gunners
Ma or may not have a loader.

The British Mark I and Mark IV tanks had 8 crewmen and the Mark VIII had as many as 12 depending on the variant. Most WWII medium tanks had 5 crew. IG tanks are based more off WWI designs (by WWII tanks didn't have sponsons, it was better just to mount co-axial or hull mounted weapons)

Many SW players think they use servitors or some sort of upgraded targetting for the sponsons and autoloaders, which could reduce the crew to as little as a driver, a gunner, and probably a commander, although I'm not sure space marines would still need one. Even with a commander, I doubt there are more than 3 space marines in a leman russ.
