Default Scout army

has anyone ever made a scout army. How effective was it ?

i made a 750pts scout army
it was OK but it does require some master tactics,
and i mean tactics on a malveaux scale :P,
you're gonna be limited to two heavy weapons choices,missile launcher and heavy bolter and most armies will tear you to shreds with ease,
try investing in an assault squad as well to add a lite CC punch,

overall a challenging list but fun nonetheless,not recommended for new players

In a 500 point army it might be affective but any more, well as you say, you would need a bigger option. even still scout snipers can still take down hive tyranids or greater daemons. >

A scout list is tons of fun to have, but it does, as was said, require alot of skill to use effectively, especially when reaching over 750 points. Often 1 squad might have to fulfill several battle field rolls. I like to equip my scouts with equipment for several roles. Usually, especially large games, I''ll give a scout squad max squads, no mmatter their purpose. And you'll be limited in unit choices-pretty much an HQ unit, scouts, and scout bikers.

I see nothing wrong with a scout only army for kill teams & patrol forces but if you want to feild an army of "scouts" then use the trait see,but don't be seen. I've built my marine army on a celtic tribe of hunters who hunt there pery for days on end before they make a kill so it makes sense that everyunit infilltates much like scouts.

i don't think a scout army would overall pack enough punch to defeat an enemy, although scouts are just the same as marines, they don't have the same weaponry....

They are still good troops: they just don't have the same equipment. Just becuase it isn't power armor doesn't mean it's bad :

yeah, I'm not denying that they are good troops, I'm just saying that their equipment is poor compired to space marines, and so it should be seeing as scouts are just SM in training trying to earn their right to wear the armour, I'm just saying that i do not think it would be a very good army at all, to poorly equip.

Poorly equipped?

They don't have power armor...but they have missile launchers for anti-tank/anti-light infantry, heavy bolters for infantry, close combat weapons and bolt pistols for CC, bolters (like Sm), and snipers for elite/ montrous creature. So their main disadvantage is...power armor and the fact they are only troops and fast attack, so you'll fill the Force Organization chart and still need more scout squads. The main disadvantage is that there isn't enough force organization allowance for the number of Scouts needed.

They aren't poorly equipped. They just don't have power armor and plasma.
