Default Wheres the drop pods???

Does anyone make use of drop pods anymore? I was wondering, becuase I haven't seen drop pods used ever, and they seem useful. I'm making a list for a drop pod army now, but in the meantime, want to know if anyone has suggestions towards a drop pod army. And don't worry- it won't be power-gamish.

I have a drop podding marine army that is a Work in Progress. Very slow progress. I'm using the Trust your Battlebrothers and Cleans and purify advantages, with the Have pride in your colours and Eye to Eye drawbacks.
The two advantages means that I can deep strike in with 2 plasma guns and blaze away with them and bolters against my enemies, and still have a respectable close combat punch for the inevitable counter charge.

I've only played one game with them so far, which was a 1000 pt 3 way free-for-all take and hold vs Tau and Tyranids. Unfortunatly I had the missfortune of being chased down by a geenstealer squad with a broodlord, and had 2 tac squads and my terminator command eaten alive. This was after the minor moral victory of taking down her carnifex with bolters ;D Even if they only had to take 1 wound off.

Hopefully after I finish making my drop pods and have a few more games with them I'll have a better idea as to what tactics work with them.

I use Drop pods still. The new rules are AWESOME ;D! For my army I have Trust Your Battle Brothers (gives em True Grit) so they equally good at shooting and close combat, so i just let the enemy come to me. I fill the drop pods with either Assault terminators or some unit with alot of anti-tank, and then drop them near there tanks of large squads of infantry. This probably won't work against tyranids though.

what can I say? Great minds think alike ;D

But seriously, both Trust your Battle Brothers and Cleanse and Purify both make sence with a drop podding army. On the turn you land, you need to dish out a lot of damage, so rapid firing bolters and special weapons are your friends. Hence Cleanse And Purify, for 2 plasma guns, 2 flamers or 2 meltaguns. But after your shooting phase, chances are you will be charged next turn. This is where Trust your Battle Brothers comes in. You still have bolters, allowing you to double tap in your previous shooting phase, but you also count as being armed with 2 CCWs. Plus couter charge means that you can get all your marines in so you can dish out the maximum number of attacks.

I know, but I'm opting for a close-shooty army, kind of like a drop pod-version of salamanders (but they have nothing to do fluff wise with salamanders...od, ey?) So Cleanse and Purify will be in. But my assaulting will be done by Terminators and Veterans. And maybe a dread. Meanhwile tactical squads and devastators do the shooting using Multi-Meltas, Plasma Guns, and Plasma Cannons(I love them to death...). Making the list still.

Modification/Note: Post is now up for the list. Check it out.

I see no point in them, especially when I confirmed, via several staff members and e-mail, that you cannot charge on the turn a Drop Pod lands.

Okay, so you can't assault, but, with careful placement, the Assualt Terminators should be able to weather a turn of fire. At the very least they can make the nearest unit run like little babies. If you use normal Terminators w/ 2 Assault Cannons, they can dish out some serious anti infantry pain. Dreadnoughts are the best of bothe worlds, because they can fire their
weapon(s) on the turn they land, and then pile into close combat the next turn.
If you land a squad with a melta within 6 inches of a tank, there's a pretty good chance you can frag the sucker >.
