Default Handful of noob ?'s

I just have a handful of general questions, some of which I can already assume the answer to however I've learned what happens when you assume too much... so here I am

1. Marine Sergeants : when adding a sergeant to a marine squad does the sergeants point cost match that of a basic squad
member or is there a differant point cost for the sergeant?

2. Grenades : should the entire squad, including Sgt, be equip'd with them or is 3-4 of each type plenty for the typical match?

3. Special Weapons : where can I go to purchase grenade / heavy weapon / melee weapon bits, or am I stuck buying sets?

4. Why didn't I learn my lesson with Battletech, cheap hobbies = larger bank account?

Thanks in advance guys, I'm sure I'll think of a few more as I pick through my codex and flesh out my army

The sergeant is not 'added' to the squad per se - he is automatically a member of the squad and costs the same as the other members. The base cost might as well be 30pts, though, as Terminator Honours is almost obligatory :P.

I'm afraid you don't realy have the grasp of how grenades work - it's an all or none deal. Either you give the entire squad including Sgt. the grenades, or you give noone anything. The only other way is to give a veteran sargeant (i.e. sarge with t-honours) grenades from the armoury, which IMO is very unecomical.

You can order sprues from the online store, or use bits left over from other squads.

Because GW stores have subliminal messages, and the plastic his microsopically-encoded sublinal encouragements to surrender your life to geekdom and poverty ;D.

The sergeant has the same cost as a basic Marine. You only pay extra if he's a Veteran Sergeant.

Also, do not carefully the unit description: 1 Sergeant and 4-9 Space Marines. It is not, as some have believed, 5-10 Marines and an additional Sergeant.

Either everyone has to take them, or nobody does.

Special and heavy weapons are available in Blister Packs.

Play Space Hulk: Rules can be found free off the internet, board sections can be made out of cardboard, and you only need one box of the old Terminators (about 18) and one box of Genestealers (18 again) to play.

Or Blood Bowl: 40 for the boxed set, including two complete teams.

Or Necromunda: Rules free off Specialist Games, and you can convert a gang from one box of Imperial Guard.

Danke and additional noobness...

5. Force Organisation Chart : I'm in left field on this one, when constructing a generic army do I have to follow this chart or
will my army consisting of 1 HQ, 2 Troops, 1 Fast Attack, and 1 Heavy Support be alright for table top use?

6. Tactical Squads : Tac squads and combat squads are the same exact thing correct ?

I'm trying to limit myself to only the things I can't find specificly stated else where on the web. Unfortunately the local GW wants $150 to join the IWC or a painted army for game nights ( not a problem once I know what else I need to buy ) so until then I'm just feeling my way through army creation.

5. You need at least one hq and two troops. In addition you can have 1 more hq, 3 elites, two more troops, three fast attack, and two heavy support. So your list would be legal.

6. Combat squads just come with 5 models instead of 10.

I don't know if Combat Squads are even available any longer, they were a great buy while it lasted... the above answers are right, though.

Combat squads are still available but they arent such a great deal. They're only 15$ cheaper.

The new combat squad is pretty lame. It just comes with 5 marines, some purity seals, and an extra head or two. And it's $20! It also has no heavy or special weapons, and it doesn't give you the parts to make a seargent with anything other than a bolter. It's not a very god buy, and the only reason I can see for one is maybe filling out a devastator squad.

Yes it would. The minumum you need is 1 HQ and 2 Troops. You can then have any of the following in addition:
0-1 HQ
0-3 Elites.
0-4 Troops.
0-3 Fast Attack.
0-3 Heavy Support.

Yes.

Once again thanks all, seems I wasn't quite as far from the mark on most of my interpretations as I had originally expected. Two new questions for the night before I try to catch some Z's ( try being a big word ).

7. I've seen sites with reviews on army building programs but have yet to find any downloadable programs yet, any decent
ones floating around out there that wont cost me my first born or am I stuck plugging away with the book
and a calculator?

8. When setting a squad up with grenades do I actually need to find grenade sprues to glue onto the mini's or is stating they
are carrying the holy hand grenade of antioch sufficient for tourney's ect?

Thanks in advance yet again and yet another squad nearing table top status.
