Default Looking for a good...

Looking for a good Spacemarine information site, something similar to the layout of this forum's Tau site would be fantastic.

I'm planning on starting up 40k in the very near future but still haven't been able to decide which army I'm most interrested in. Right now it's a toss up between a basic Ultramarine company (I'm fairly certain they're the "basic" unit type) and a Tau army, I just need a bit more information (with a bit less fluff) to make up my mind as to which would suit my play style best. Thanks in advance for any and all information yall might be able to provide.

Well first off the Ultramarines arent the basic anything. They are just one of several readily identified chapters, such as the imperial fists and salamanders, crimson fists and white scars, etc.

As for the armies Tau is very, very shooty and also rather mobile but not a whole lot else. What they do they do extremely well but if you like running up and assaulting people Tau are not for you. Also Tau just demand much more strategical thinking and tactics than marines so they are not really for new players though you certainly can start with them, hey I did.

As for marines they are rough, tough, and can do pretty much anything you want them to. Whether it be punching tanks, mowing down infantry or slashing up things in close combat given a few pieces of cool gear you can do it. Flamers to flush enemies from cover, heavy bolters for anti infantry and meltas for taking down tanks, they can do it all and thats just their basic tactical squad. With the new Space Marine codex they have a lot of goodies available to them and the Black Templars codex will be coming soon adding yet more fun toys for the Marines. Though marines are more expencive and will have fewer soldiers than say an Eldar army or Imperial Guard, its not hard for even Tau to field more troops.

However there are a lot of marine players... a lot. 4 out of every 5 Warhammer 40K players I have ever met have a marine army, most of them started with marines. There are an extremely lot of marines. Space Marine vs Space Marine can get old after a while. Tau are a fun race to play because they are the only real Good Guys and have a rather unique style of combat.

Its your choice, every army has its ups and downs. Each can be tailored to your particular style of play but some armies will work better for you than others. Look around and see what you think would be cool.

In the end the best advice I can give is pick the army you think looks the coolest and go with it.

try bolter and chainsword, librarium online, space wolves, etc. they are all linked from this site:

turnsignalsonalandraider.com

which is a great site in and of itself!

But they stand around and spit alot so i figure they must be halfway decent construction workers...

There are no good guys in 40k.

Tau:Would you like to join our empire?
Human:No thank you.
Tau:Well then......kill the guela! the guela must burn! muhuhahahahaha!

As you can see the humans were really polite in their decision while the tau were aggresive and mean!

you cant really say anyone is the good guys. the tau just have that " good guy feel" to them. since there working together and fighting for one cause. and that cause isnt to kill all the enemy in the known universe, its to unite everyone under the greater good and live in peace, the only way to get it though is thru forced violence. you might say that the tau are the most peaceful and negotiative, since they would let anyone into there way of life. They would be fighting some IG one day, and literally the next they would accept the surrender of the few IG who have seen that the emporers protection has gone, and integrate them into there way of life, and live side by side with them. thats why i like tau so much=)
