First of all I would drop the command squad, at 1k point there are just going to be a massive sink that wont be able to achieve that much in game terms.

With that gone you should be able to throw some Rhinos on your tactical squads in order to give them a bit more mobility and perhaps throw some better AT in the list as what you have wont be enough to reliably kill a tank. For example lets take your Pred, you will on average hit 2/3 of the time which is of course 1 1/3 hits. You have a one in six chance of glancing an AV12 vehicle (therefore 2/9) and a one in three chance of pen'n an AV12 vehicle (therefore 4/9). However, this is your main battle tank so we have to imagine it will be shooting at AV 13 vehicles so it will glance 1/6 of the time and pen 1/6 of the time. This means that with both shots there will be a 2/9 chance of glance and 2/9 chance of pen. Which means that 5/9 of the time you wont be doing anything to other tanks.

Hmm Okay. First off, I plan on using this on sunday, and I have no Rhinos yet.

I do have another 10 man Tactical squad, 5 assault termies, 5 assault marines, some Devastators and a Melta dreadnought, and 5 scouts.

Personally, I have had only a few games, but the command squad did good, they even chewed through a commander and a lot of his Marine troops, whilst surviving Vindicator shots. Or was it a whirlwind. It blew up my tank on the first turn.

Thanks

It's quite funny that you have twice as many terminators that I do yet I do have quite a lot of points... Personal preference I suppose, but, on topic, the Command Squad really isn't that great in combat, and at 1k point the sort of combat units you will be running into will either: beat your CS to thw ground or not warrant 185pts. You do realise that with your HQ in there you are spending 30% of your point on a lackluster combat unit . Well, if you really want to take one, take it, but I honestly don't see it being worth pouring 30% of your points into... I mean, you could at least put some sponsons on your Pred with some of the point you could spend (or take the extra armour + SB off for them).

  • Ah okay, its only from personal experience on the combat squads.

So lets see, I remove 185 Pnts and add what? another Tactical squad, and have 15 left over.
Remove the extra armour, and I could have an assault termie squad, but I don't see them being worth it.

I do have a Lass+Missile Dev squad, coming in at 185 Pnts, to add AT fire, Which I might take instead.

If only I had more to work with.

    Edit: New list

    HQ
    Captain Alonso
    • Storm Bolter
    • Lightning Claw
    • Artificer Armour
    -118

    Troops
    Tactical Squad Airenze
    • +5 Men
    • Flamer
    • Heavy Bolter
    -170

    Tactical Squad Redux
    • +5 Men
    • Flamer
    • Heavy Bolter
    -170

    Elite
    Terminator Squad Inevitable
    • Cyclone Missile Launcher
    -240

    Heavy Support
    Predator Tank
    • Storm Bolter
    • Extra Armour

    Devastator Squad Auz
    • 2X Lascannon
    • 2X Missile Launcher
    -185

Would it be worth it to swap the captain for a Librarian, with some shooty powers?

This list seems a lot more balanced to me and the AT seems to be a lot better with the command squad gone. I suppose the Librarian depends on your overall battle plan, if you use your HQ choice very agressive (which I suppose you do as you bought him a CS) I would go for a captain/chap master. You don't have an assault (terminator) squad so I don't suppose a chaplain is worth it and what you need to ask yourself is "Is the librarian agressive enough for my HQ's battleplan?" If it is go for it, I tend not to as I stuff my HQ with a combat squad in a Rhino and go hunting but that's just me.

However this list seems much more balanced and should probably see you through a wider variety of games.

I like the new list. It is much better balanced and you're packing enough anti-tank for such a low points value.

I'm a huge fan of Librarians and Chaplains and feel they would be a good addition to the list. A Captain isn't really anything but a generic, ability-less hero to be equipped with a couple fancy weapons which you can put on your veteran units anyway. The only thing he has going for him is the option of a Command Squad but that's a major points sink in only 1k points. As Spectre as already said, you lack any dedicated melee units which would make the Chaplain really excel. The Librarians is always a nice choice, however, and can be built to your liking. I find Vortex of Doom and Terminator Armor to be a nice combination as the armor negates the Heavy aspect of the attack. And you can't argue with S10/AP1.

I am more aggressive with my Captain but I think thats because he is built for combat, and had a command squad built for it. A Librarian would perhaps be better as a secondary HQ.

As for the Chaplain, I have one in Terminator armour, and for my next list, he will be leading the assault squad.

Although, to be fair, I play tested a Librarian, and it went well in assault against standard troopers.

Thanks for the comments, be sure to see my next list.
