Default The Boars Tusk: 1500pt SW

Based on the Viking tactic of using a wedge of infantry to drive a hole into the enemy lines I have constructed this list. Once again I have used a broad range of infantry supported by specialists to force a gap in the enemy army and exploit it with fast moving assault units.

The Boar's Tusk

[HQ] Wolf Guard Battle Leader - 105pts
- Thunder hammer
- Wolftooth necklace

[HQ] Wolf Priest - 100pts

[Troops] 9 Blood Claws - 170pts
- 1 Blood Claw w/ flamer
- Rhino

[Troops] 9 Blood Claws - 170pts
- 1 Blood Claw w/ flamer
- Rhino

[Troops] 10 Grey Hunters - 195pts
- 2 Grey Hunters w/ plasma gun
- Rhino

[Troops] 10 Grey Hunters - 195pts
- 2 Grey Hunters w/ plasma gun
- Rhino

[Elites] 10 Wolf Scouts - 205pts
- 1 Wolf Scout w/ mark of the wulfen
- 1 Wolf Scout w/ power weapon
- 1 Wolf Scout w/ plasma pistol
- 1 Wolf Scout w/ melta gun

[Heavy Support] 6 Long Fangs - 180pts
- 5 Long Fangs w/ missile launchers
- Razorback

[Heavy Support] 6 Long Fangs - 180pts
- 5 Long Fangs w/ missile launchers
- Razorback

Total - 1500pts

The idea here is to neutralise enemy heavy weaponry with the Long Fangs/Razorbacks before hitting a single point n the enemy line with all four units of assault troops, the Battle Leader and Wolf Priest giving a measure of control over the usually unruly Blood Claws. The Wolf Scouts have the equipment to either take out any remaining vehicles or reinforce the line by charging in from behind the enemy lines.

Against combat based armies the Long fangs can split fire to decimate their transports or monstrous creatures, or fire a huge number of blast markers at any horde lists. The Rhinos and Razorbacks can be used to block fire lanes and provide a firebase to hold ground around.

List edited to drop wolf-tooth necklace from the Wolf Priest and MotW from the Battle Leader in order to equip the Battle Leader with a thunder hammer, in my opinion giving me enough in the way of anti tank gear.

I feel like I repeat myself, but one meltagun won't be enough against a Leman Russ, battle wagon or Land Raider.

That, and also the fact that the list have a severe absence of powerfists is quite disturbing. They are essentially even more important than ever before, due to close combat being more decisive due to forcing enemies to have leadership modifiers, but also ranges to destroying vehicles more effectively if the circumstances forces you to fight vehicles.

In addition, the mark of the Wulfen is a definite waste on the Wolf Guard captain, as he can benefit from much better weaponry that can most certainly do a lot of damage that not many can survive (Frost Blades in particular, but you can also take Thunderhammers).

This is those kinds of list where people would first pick out the long fangs, and the go on and make a fool out of the rest of your guys. The lists needs people to think did they make the right decision, but actually it is a no-win solution as each unit are formidable and can take on most things by themselves.

I'll have to take a look at WGs copy of the dex again. It's only actually the land raider that I'm worried about. I'm confident that combat will deal with most threats, vehicular in nature or otherwise. However, taking a thunder hammer on my Battle Leader, is indeed a far better option and I'll change my list to reflect this.

Let me know how that Scout unit does. I feel it's too big. I would have made two units each with Meltaguns for some behind the lines tank busting power.

You could make some ML into Heavy Bolters to get the extra points needed to do the above.

I've made it a large unit so that, if the enemy don't have much in the way of vehicles, or they've already been destroyed.
The ten-man squad allows me to have a fairly kick-arse combat unit turning up where I need them. Brilliant vs. Tau for example.

It may be a while before I get to test them out as I've ran into a few problems recently, but I'm gonna try and test the list using proxies against Wargamer.

I was looking again at your list again and if you changed the Rhinos to drop pods and split the Scouts to two units that would be a good list as well. True, very true, but remember if you roll poorly, they will end up on the wrong side. Two units increase your chances of ending up where you need them.
