Default Ok, I think I finally got it (1500 pt. List)

Praetors of Orpheus

HQ
1 x Master of the Forge - 120
(Storm Bolter, Power Sword)

Troops
1 x 10 Man Tac Squad - 240
(Rhino, Fist, Plasmas gun + cannon)

1x 10 Man Tac Squad - 230
(Rhino, Fist, Melta, MultiMelta)

Elites
1 Dreadnought - 180
(Las, Missile Launcher, Drop Pod)

1 Ironclad Dreadnought - 185
(Heavy Flamers, Drop Pod)

Heavy Support
1 x 8 man Dev Squad -254
(4 Plasma Cannons)

1 x 8 man Dev Squad - 214
(4 Missile Launchers)

1x Whirlwind - 85

As you can see, it is meant to be quite shooty. Oh and it's 8 pts. over but that doesn't matter much. Comments would be greatly appreciated.

You're going to struggle against highly mechanized lists, never mind if they throw a land raider or two at you. I'd honestly have to recommend autocannons over those plasma cannons in that dev squad. Autocannons are amazing against AV11/12, which is the majority of the mech you'll be facing. You do have a couple of mobile meltas, so you won't be immediately screwed when you see a land raider across the table, but realize that, with two meltas and a multi-melta, you're going to have to rely a little bit on luck to pop it.

That said, the list can work. As far as shooty lists go, it's not bad. I'd definitely try and get at least a couple autocannons in your list, however. I'd even suggest maybe switching out the whirlwind for an AC/HB predator.

(sorry, I was thinking in Chaos mode again; 2xlas, 2xmissile would probably suffice for a second dev squad)

since when could loyalist marines take autocannons in devestator squad :sadnshocked:

Shows how much I've used dev squads (the single worst heavy support choice for loyalists, imo). I'm thinking Chaos, sorry about that.

:P

In that case, a las/missile dev squad is my recommendation. My point about plasma cannons still stands.

ok good, i was hoping i wasn't making things up.

i don't know, i think plasma cannons are a pretty good choice i think. i'd rather see the tactical squad be setup with melta guns, and give the iron clad a melta gun too(they can take that right?)

Didn't realize you'd replaced the melta on the ironclad. Yeah, I'd suggest keeping the meltagun, short ranged as it is.

Plas/plas works for a shooty tactical squad, in my opinion. It also gives an answer to terminators.

but so does 4 bast templates of plasma

melta guns are a more sure fire way of taking out vehicles, i think. lascannons cost too much to do any good. if your mixing in missile launcher with lascannons then skip it, because then you have 2 more slight worse guns to try to shoot with.
